Football - In the English Premier League top of the table Arsenal beat Aston Villa 2-1, Erling Haaland scored his second hat-trick in as many games as rampant Manchester City outclassed newly-promoted Nottingham Forest 6-0 and Liverpool beat Newcastle United 2-1 at Anfield.

In the London derby West Ham and Tottenham drew 1-1 and Bournemouth and Wolves drew 0-0.

American investment group RedBird Capital has completed a deal to buy AC Milan from Elliott Advisors. The deal values AC Milan, current Serie A champions, at 1.2bn euros.

In last night's Italian league action highlights included Juventus beating Spezia 2-0, Napoli and Lecce drawing 1-1 and that was the same score between Sampdoria and Lazio.  

In France Paris St-Germain maintained their unbeaten start to the Ligue 1 season under new boss Christophe Galtier with a comfortable victory 3-0 at Toulouse.

English Premier League side Chelsea have signed French centre-back Wesley Fofana from Leicester City on a seven-year deal for £70m plus add-ons.The French Under-21 international joined Leicester from French side Saint-Etienne two years ago and has since made 37 Premier League appearances.

Tennis - World number three Maria Sakkari was knocked out of the US Open in the second round  beaten by China's Wang Xiyu 3-6 7-5 7-5 but Andy Murray reached the US Open third round for the first time since 2016 beating Emilio Nava 5-7 6-3 6-1 6-0 .
