The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) has come out to warn telecom operators in Thailand to get their act together or else face a fine of up to 1 million Baht per day for noncompliance.

The NBTC, which has been under immense pressure from the public and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, to tackle the growing number of fraud cases due to the various call centers, that has siphoned off money from people of all walks of life.

Telcom operators, the NBTC said, would need to immediately implement the measures of registering all SIM cards and also anybody who owns more than 5 SIM cards needs to be called in by the operator to present themselves to the operator to make sure that they are not part of the call center gangs that has been rampant in Thailand.

Nice idea but extremely unlikely to happen. Many of the scammers are not in Thailand and use disposable numbers so not easy to stop. I cant off the top of my head think of any country that has managed to stop them.

If Thailand can do it they will be the first.

Maybe they can't stop it, but the can do a lot more than they are doing....

For sure, there is no doubting that. The banks need to be part of the solution but I know from experience when you give a scammers data, account details etc, they do absolutely nothing about it.
