Daily News Thai Caption: One sacrificed life, 4 injured

Daily News reported that a bomb concealed in a roadside shack outside the Maikaen Hospital in Pattani in Southern Thailand exploded yesterday evening as a local police patrol in a pick-up was passing.

Maikaen police at the scene found a badly damaged pick-up. Five officers had been taken to the hospital where Sen Sgt Maj Baree Baka died from shrapnel wounds.

Four others were injured.

It is believed that southern separatist terrorists were responsible for the blast using a 20 kilogram improvised explosive device concealed in a shack opposite the hospital.

Since 2004 hundreds of police and military personnel and thousands of civilians - 60% of them Muslim - have been killed in the Southern insurgency (Wikipedia), notes ASEAN NOW.
