WASHINGTON — Guy Reffitt, a Texan who prosecutors said “lit the match” of the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, was sentenced to 7 1/4 years in prison on Monday, the longest sentence of any rioter to date but less than what the Justice Department had pushed for.

Reffitt, a 49-year-old from Wylie, was the first rioter to to be convicted at trial in March when a jury found him guilty on five counts: two counts of civil disorder and one count each of obstruction of an official proceeding, entering and remaining on restricted grounds with a firearm and obstruction of justice.

Reffitt, who was a recruiter for the antigovernment movement The Three Percenters, never entered the Capitol but helped ignite the crowd “into an unstoppable force” against police officers who were attempting to protect the Senate wing doors, a prosecutor at the trial said. He was equipped with a handgun, body armor, a helmet, radio and flex cuffs.

Strange that you would link that article (from 2016) that doesn't help your case at all.  It suggested that Trump's threat to go after Clinton if he wins was a rather dictatorial move.  Nothing to do with J6.

I quite agree with the article you link, which suggested in 2016 that Trump could be similar to other dictators around the globe! ????

 

That was actually quite predictive of his fascist behaviour: strengthen the law on classified documents in order to apply it to Hilary (he's having a taste of his own medicine now), abuse his power to discredit a political opponent, try to overturn fair and legitimate elections, etc...

In his defense, he state that he was following legal orders from the then President. That's a lot to unpack. Those (I think 3) who plead guilty have entered into a plead deal and will cooperate with sibstantial cooperation. The noose is tightening for the chief instigator/s.

What about his Constitutional right to bear arms and it also stated that he didn't enter the Capitol, so couldn't personnaly have attacked it.

 

Now I don't really care if he got 7 or 70 years as most of these people are 2 cans short of a six pack.

It's not legal to carry a firearm (without special permission) onto the Capitol Grounds.  On that day, it was also illegal to be on the Capitol grounds.  There were barriers outside the Capitol that were violently breached.  The police officer he injured was helping stop people .

It's going to be a pretty weak argument unless they've got some evidence that so far hasn't been revealed. I personaly have no doubt that Trump was delighted by the insurrection and intended to incite it, but there just isn't enough there to support the Oath Keepers claims. Trump played them as he has played the entire MAGA movement.

If someone distrusts a post they demand a link to back it up.  In most cases this is dumb -- if you don't trust someone why would you trust their link?  I think it is the weak person's way of attempting control.  If you don't trust what some posted then do your own search!
