A Myanmar beauty queen who spoke out against the military coup in her homeland landed Wednesday in Canada, where she has been granted asylum after being stranded at an airport in Thailand for nearly a week.

Thaw Nandar Aung, better known by her professional moniker Han Lay, “has arrived safely in Toronto,” Tin Maung Htoo of the Burmese Canadian Action Network told AFP.

“She’s now waiting for a (connecting) flight to Charlottetown” in eastern Canada, where she plans to settle and continue her activism against the coup that ousted Myanmar’s civilian government led by Aung San Suu Kyi, he said.

Good for Han Lay. Toronto is a nice city albeit cold in the winter, but with her looks she should be able to make enough money to find some winter sun. If she needs a husband, I can help.

Bet if it was a 65 year old 23 stone bald bloke with saggy boobs they wouldn't have granted asylum ..... perhaps i should fly over and ask them.

And now for the rest of the story a few months from now she will get married to a Canadian rich guy so then apply for a whole family to come to Canada and they all live happily ever after it’s a wonderful world TIT

Sounds just like Donald Trump's missus then. Same same. Different country.

Just met a Thai girl -- recent arrival in Canada after a short spell in the US -- who got hired on at a neighbourhood sports bar in east-end Toronto. A cracker of a girl, smart as a whip. She's from Hat Yai. There are quite a few others working in Thai eateries. Thank you Thailand for donating your best.

Also met a gal from Bataan and another from Nepal in different east-end restaurants. Funny but never met Thai males here.

She is from Myanmar is that a part of siam province?

Pathetic.  Should've face the consequences of being a criminal.

I know she's from bordering Myanmar...

I was saying lots of Thais have made a similar move.

They mostly don't work.

From what I understand she ended up in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, which is in the middle of nowhere.   Google it.  Not too many modeling jobs there, I think.  Not sure that is what she had in mind, being in the middle of nowhere.

She likes "Anne of Green Gables"

Her first public statement was 'Where am I, it's bloody freezing'......

Might have gone from bad to worse in terms of tyranical governments, no?  Don't get a Canadian bank account Han!
