Hi there,

Im new to the board.

I originally planned to stay in thailand for 2 months and thought I got a 2 month visa at airport. It turned out 6 weeks later I checked my passport and seen it was only a 1 month visa.

This ended up with 18 days overstay and 9000 Bat fine, When I went on my visa run.

I want to know if I can extend another 30 days on my last visa or if my next via will be deducted from my previous overstay?

Thank you to any1 that can help :o

Good question . Normally travelling on VOA (visafree entry) you can get 3 times 30 days in a 180 day period. You have 2 times 30 plus an extra 18 days .So you would have 12 days left .I do not know if overstay count for this. If not you will be on your last VOA anyway .So a run to a consulate and apply for a single tourist visa will give you 60 days and a extra 30 with extension .Would be a better bet I guess. The moderators can tell you I think if overstay counts .

You can not get any visa at airport. You got a 30 day visa exempt entry that can not be extended for 30 days. You overstayed and now have what? Another visa exempt entry or did you visit a Consulate and obtain a visa?

Overstay days will be most likely be counted against the 90 days in six month rule so you would not be able to obtain 3 visa exempt entries of 30 days in a row. But if you have a tourist visa you should still be able to extend that for 30 days.

The scenario you describe suggests an entry without a visa and receipt of 30 days tourist stamp. No reason to suppose that another 30 days would not be granted. My advice is always to check entry stamp before leaving the immigration desk.

You appear remarkably relaxed as other posters would more likely ask what is the chance of being refused further entry.

Edit.

Penny has just dropped. You have already received a second 30 day entry despite your overstay and are querying what you will recieve if you do a second border run. Assume 12 days. No, you can bet on it.

Thats right . I think the Op his only sure bet would be to get a new tourist visa .

Or is there something else going on ? The story misses some points , or he does not know the difference beween a visa and a visa exempt (VOA).

Any extension is counted against the 90 in 180 days rule so I presume that an overstay is as well.

The only argument against that would be the fact that you were here illegally and have paid the fine.

I guess this may well come down to a guys interpretation and could vary but I would think it would be more often negative than positive.

to make things clear I arrived 3rd May and got 1 month visa, + 18 days over stay.

and last week another 1 month visa.

so you guys are mostly saying I will have 12 days in my next visa.

What if I were to overstay say 2 weeks? on top of that?

what would happen at airport? could I just pay fine and that be that?

I need to know tommorrow because my plane is due to leave next week and I want to stay longer.

Im on a tourist visa as far as i Know.

Thank you very much to all who have responded and to anyone that can help in advance.

Just to avoid further confusion I would like to point out that visa exempt entry is not the same as VOA (visa on arrival).

Unfortunately VOA is being used so frequently on this forum when a poster really means Visa Exempt Entry that many people end up believing they are the same. Maybe we should start using VEE for Visa Exemt Entry?

From what I can make out you are NOT on a visa. You re-entered Thailand without a visa and were given a 30 day permission-to-stay stamp under visa exemption provisions.

You have already got away with a previous overstay (and I'm not talking about the fine there - read on).

If you search enough on this board you will find stories of people ending up in the Immigration Detention Centre through being caught on overstay. I am not being holier-than-though , I have had overstay payment stamps in my passport , I am just discouraging you from taking the risk.

DON'T DO IT. The risk may be small but the downside is not good.

You seem to be confused as to what you really have, probably the same confusion that caused you to overstay in the first place. In the following I'm assuming you are from a western country as the rules are somewhat different if you are not.

A tourist visa is obtained at an embassy or consulate outside Thailand and will (for citizens from most countries) give you 60 days in Thailand. This can then against a fee be extended at an immigration office inside Thailand for a further 30 days. You can not get a tourist visa when arriving in Thailand.

What you do get when arriving without a visa is a permission to stay 30 days. This is what is called a visa exempt entry. You are allowed only 90 days on visa exempt entries within any 180 days period. Nobody knows for sure if your overstay will be counted when calculating how many days you have used up, so it's unsure whether you would get another 30 days or only 12 days on your next entry. My guess is that you would only receive 12 days, and if you want to stay longer you should instead apply for a tourist visa in a neighboring country.

You should under no circumstances knowingly overstay again. Yes, if you do you can probably just pay another fine at the airport for overstaying when leaving Thailand the next time. However, if you should get caught in a passport control or for some other reason come in contact with the authorities before you leave, you will be arrested and incarcerated in the Immigration detention center (by all accounts not a very nice place) waiting to be deported from Thailand. There is even an outside chance that you will be blacklisted and not allowed to return to Thailand again.

With a UK passport you will automatically get a 30day visa exemption stamp on arrival in Thailand.

That is assuming you have not already one the same 3 times (90 days total) in the last 6 months.
