My wife told me that there is no combined driving licence in Thailand (for car AND motorbike), but I need two seperate licences.

So do I need all these documents 2 times if I want to apply for car and motorbike driving licence at the same time?

- Residence certificate

- Medical certificate

- Translation of my home country driving licence?

I will apply in Bangkok Chatuchak.

Wife is correct - there are two separate licences for Motorcycles and Cars.

- Translation of home country driving licence ? - which country is it ?

IF in English its already ok IF your country is signatory to 1968 Vienna convention on road traffic.

IF in a foreign language you’ll need an IDP.

Thanks. Yes, I have the IDP.

I already asked the DLT and they said it must be the IDP under convention 1949. This is what I have.

I’ve heard the same before...

However Thailand is a signatory of the 1968 Vienna convention which supersedes the 1949 Geneva convention on road traffic.

Somewhat moot though as Thailand is also a signatory of the 1949 Geneva convention on road traffic.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienna_Convention_on_Road_Traffic

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva_Convention_on_Road_Traffic

Superseding this is the Thai Motor vehicle traffic act 1979 (Title 3)

[Section 42-2: In case there’s a treaty between the Thai government and a foreign government regarding mutual acceptance of driver’s license, an alien who doesn’t have an immigrant visa may drive a motor vehicle with a driver’s license issued by such a foreign government, or an automobile association authorized by such a foreign government.]

Which basically means - if you have an Overseas licence from one of the 1949 or 1968 convention signed countries - you’re good to go if your licence is in English and has a photo (you don’t need an IDP).
