geovalin Posted October 7, 2022 Share Posted October 7, 2022 Aside from damage to infrastructures and crops, the floods in Banteay Meanchey have claimed the lives 14 people. This is according to Chhun Buntha, Chairman of the Inter-sectoral Office and Secretary of the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Disaster Management Committee, in a report on October 5. Buntha confirmed that 9,218 houses that were flooded which affected the lives of 40,637 people, equivalent to 547 families. Nearly 30,000 hectares of fields were flooded. The floods also affected 59 schools, affecting 16,033 students and teachers. Schools in the province have been forced to close due to the floods and for the safety of students and teachers.
