BANGKOK (NNT) - Traditionally associated with the social dimension of affairs, the Ministry of Culture is increasing its role in the economic dimension by leveraging soft power. Cultural, art, and food highlights of Thailand are being used to spur forth tourism activities and to elevate Thailand into a world-class cultural tourism destination.

A memorandum of agreement on a “project to develop creative and cultural tourism products” has been signed by 3 agencies. These include the Ministry of Culture, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and the Board of Trade of Thailand. The signatories agreed to collaboratively improve the relevant know-how and use innovations to develop products and services. Emphasis is on the use of community identities to add value to cultural tourism routes. This would expand the capabilities of communities and improve income for businesses in each locale.

The "TAGTHAi" mobile application will be employed to help deliver one-stop tourism services. These will pertain to tourism destinations, accommodations, eateries, shopping sites, and activities of tourist interest. These one-stop services are believed to contribute toward elevating Thailand into a world-class cultural tourism destination. During the initial phase, the one-stop services will be piloted in at least 5 cultural tourism routes in the 5 regions of Thailand.

Minister of Culture Itthiphol Kunplome explained the effort is aimed at adding value to Thailand’s economy within 5 years, using soft power in the aspect of culture. He said about 9% of Thailand’s GDP was attributed to cultural and creative cultural industry products before the Covid pandemic. The goal is to raise this share to 15% of GDP. The activities under the memorandum of agreement will become models for future implementation across communities in Thailand. They will become part of preparations to accommodate tourists who are expected to gradually return amid the ever-improving Covid situation.

Looking at tik tok all visitors seem interested in is bar girls, 7/11 snacks, street food (yuk) feeding soi dogs and the usual rip off markets, roof top bars and over crowded beaches. Petri dishes have more culture. ????

Another pie in the sky forecast, 15% of GDP 555.

Ministry of Culture

They need to take a good long look at themselves, they are in desperate need of an update to bring this antiquated culture in line with the 21st century! They could start with a serious discussion on the fickleness of FACE!

1. Is it in my price range ?

2. Are the airfares cheap enough ?

3. Is the exchange rate ok ?

4. Is hotel fully booked ?

5. Is the local food OK ?

59. Are there many soi dogs

68. Are there plentiful 7/11's nearly ?

82. Is Drainage ok ?

100. Is it soft power and green and cultural ?

Having been holidaying and living in Thailand since 2002 (living there for the past 2 military takeovers). I have witnessed the steady decline and changes in attitude. If I didn't have family ties I would never set foot in Thailand even though I have a house there. 2/3/4 times pricing for foreigners all sanctioned by government, pavements unusable especially if your disabled, floods, Rabies and unimaginable numbers of soi dogs or latch key dogs roaming streets and beaches in tourist areas. Tourists being attacked by packs of men at every opertunity. Not even mentioning the deadly roads. Thailand needs a total change in attitude from the top down. It is a beautiful country with many wonderful people but it feels as though it has purposely been turned into a cesspool by those at the top table/trough!!

Soft power???? 300 THB entrance fee and the new announcement of the entrance of parks..

soft power what s laugh. you mean taking hard cash of tourist 5 x amout to enter national parks then the additional entrance fee to THAILAND the place is run by morons

You forgot the exit fee of 700 baht

Soft power is promoting food, culture, travel while the National Parks are starting to raise fees for foreigners to use.

Hmmm, I guess Parks aren't part of the soft power mentality or somebody isn't talking to somebody else

Remembering Patters 25 years ago, there were many

venues for old fashioned Thai entertainment, now its

somewhat like a western city. Lost the Thainess. Shame.
