BANGKOK (NNT) - The tourism industry has been seeing signs of recovery after being hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. The sector now expects around 11.7 million international visitors this year and a revenue of 620 billion baht.

Tourism businesses are hoping to see a recovery following the country’s border reopening to tourists. Mr. Chamnan Srisawat, President of the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), said tourists from India will become key spenders, thanks to the population size, their eagerness to travel abroad, and their high purchasing power.

Around 600,000 tourists from India have visited Thailand so far this year, making them the second largest group of visitors to the kingdom, after Malaysia.

To accommodate growth in the high-spending group, the TCT has proposed a sustainable tourism development strategy that promotes a balance between key tourism destinations and lesser-known cities, enabling better income distribution to all corners.

I suspect the higher expectation of revenue is because the price to enter the National Parks has risen to an appropriate level for Tourist. Kinda wonder what the percentage of tourist actually visit National Parks?

Oh yes, extra revenue from the 300 baht entrance fee helps the count also.

I'll take a bet with them that it will be less than that.

Total international arrivals up to the end of August were recorded as 4.5 million, according to the tourism ministry, and though it is possible there will be a sudden surge of tourists towards the end of the year, the international situation does not look encouraging to the industry.

you can always count on TAT for the weekly laughs on this board.
