Hi there , Price is not bad here is a link where i found just slightly cheaper (but add the shipping and it will be about same)

hope tht helps, rcm

Price is average, Hardware House is a respectable retailer...I say go for it.

It used to be 11,500 baht last month, but increased recently. It actually increased right on the day I purchased it, but then it was only 12,300 baht. So basically, it's gone up quite a bit. It's a good monitor. Be aware that nearly all 226BW's sold in Thailand are using "C" type (Chimei made) panels, not the "S" type (Samsung made) that people seem to covet so much. There's not that much of a difference, but just in case you find out later and get incensed at not knowing (some people feel "cheated", I checked beforehand).

Cheers guys

Bought it from the local shop for 11,500 and no delivery charges. Will get it tomorrow.

Had heard that some of these models where not equal to others but I also read it makes little or no difference............ what am i losing if its a "c" type and not the "s" ?

JAF

I didn't read much into it, since it's really a moot point (you can't find the S panel here). There was also an "a" (Acer) panel, which was supposed to be fairly bad, but since pretty much all 226BW's sold here are C panels, you shouldn't worry. You can find some of the discussions (which can get heated and ridiculous) in the various online forums, or at Newegg's customer reviews.

You're lucky to get it at 11,500, since the cheapest I've seen it currently is 12,500. The shop you got it from is probably selling it at last month's price.

I didn't have any problems with it from the beginning, but I wanted to calibrate it correctly so I did happen on that page not long after I purchased it. I tried a lot of the suggestions, but some just didn't work out. The many, many differing responses in that article also made things a bit murky. I ended up calibrating it myself, using different programs. Of course anyone who would want to do an accurate calibration would need a calibration tool like the Spyder, but they are a bit too expensive for a non-pro like me.

I have a spider (and a licensed package of colorfacts) That I would sell or even loan out for a hefty drink.

I bought a 226bw, "c" panel, last month (Bangkok Office Depot, 12,500). I work in two-monitor mode with a Samsung Synmaster 930B (s panel, roughly same height, about 4 inches narrower), bought in the States a couple of years ago.

The main defect rap on the 226bw is backlight bleeding. You can see this if you turn on the blank screensaver -- really bad monitors will get (unevenly) brighter as you go toward the edges. The downside of moderate (and even) backlight bleeding is that blacks won't be as black as they should be.

I was able to test 226bw before purchase in a darkened stock room, and the monitor was fairly even.

At home, I futzed with the calibration until color, brightness, etc. finally approximated my existing 930B. Side-by-side, in a dim room, with black screen-saver, there is clearly more light coming from all across the 226bw screen than from the 930B. And this is with bright 0%, contrast 30% for the 226bw, vs. bright 0%, contrast 15% for the 930B.

Under normal circumstances (e.g. when watching movies, Web browsing, etc.), this is not at all noticeable. However, it is clear to me in my application (reading, using black text on an off-white rgb 250,250,230 background, with WinXP ClearType font smoothing on ) that the 226bw has slightly less contrast than the 930B (even though it's rated 10 times higher).

It is conceivable that there's some bit of adjustment I've missed. And I don't have a 226bw "S" for a two-up comparison.

Bottom line, I'm satisfied with the 226bw, but would be even more so if its contrast ratio matched the 930B.

I bought one from Pantip for 11,350 yesterday.

Does anyone know what is today's price? in Pantip

as of yesterday it was 10,900 bht :o

at another shop, i saw an acer al2216 for 8,690 i think it was called M-Inter

so think about whether the looks of the samsung are really worth the extra money because as far as i know the panels are made by the same company, chi mei

http://lcdtech.no-ip.info/data/lcd.panels.htm

samsung 226BW is definately better. i've one in Singapore and im considering buying one in BKK. At 10900, its the same price as in Singapore.

I got a 226bw in Fortune (IT City) for 12,500 a few months back. Some of the smaller shops had it for about 500 baht less but they tend to disrespect warranties, so I preferred to pay a bit more.

I've looked at a few on sale in Thailand and they have all been the Chinese variant of the panels. Despite the somewhat vague criticism of these that you can find on the net (I haven't found a solid evaluation of the Chinese panels, just groundless whining), mine performs very well (noting that monitor performance is a highly variable thing even within lines). I'm happy with it and get fairly good colour reproduction in print work. It is easily the best monitor I've ever had.

For anyone that has issues with different Samsung production lines, take any image you like (particularly one with a big slab of white in it) and compare them to a cheaper brand (eg acer, benq or whatever). The cheap brands tend to have nasty yellow pervasive tinge and poor clarity. The (new) Samsungs are bloody fanstastic IMHO.
