I would be surprised if ANY falang got this kind of money.   Maybe three falangs did arrive, get maybe 1000 baht, and then sent on their way.  Likely three falang names written somewhere...Billy Smith, Mr. Bill Bob, and Mr. Bob Bill.    lol

Nobody seems to have commented that the sums seem rather small. In simple round terms about $5,000 each. If they arrived in February 2018 and left the same month that would not be a lot for wages including air fares and accomodation. There doesn't seem to me to be any indication of anything out of the ordinary. Cannot comment on the "fees" of Bt 30,000 to Bt 40,000 for a webinar, but how do you produce evidence that it never took place.

Remember, it is not hard to prove that you have been to Bangkok, but almost impossible to prove that you have never been to Bangkok (or anywhere else).

(They didn't arrive and they didn't get paid and the lecturer kept the money himself )

While the foreigners actually can attend real-live classes, they are basically paying thousands of dollars for precisely...nothing.   (A bit like visiting a Thai national park.)

That’s not true. If you want to go to a UK uni , you have to have all the necessary legal papers ( many) and yes the fee cost is higher which is normal. Why should a foreigner get free education or health when they could go to a uni in their own country ? Lots of Saudis, Emirates, African , Chinese come to foreign universities where English is spoken. Australia, UK, US etc. You can be reported to immigration if you don’t follow your courses.
They do attend their lectures/ classes they do not pay for nothing as you say, and their results go towards the diplomas/ degree’s they  are working for. No fake , bought diplomas  abroad ! . In Thailand it’s common knowledge that those students from,wealthy families can buy their way into life. 

My niece is head of the department for foreign students in a UK uni and she very often has told me how hard and serious they take their work. 

The headline, with the reference to foreigners, is misleading. It appears that this is a simple case of embezzlement, if proven.

The sum I saw was 1.1 billion baht pilfered, not a bad earner considering their piddling salaries!

 

Using the names of foreigners as recipients of cash doesn't mean they actually got any money. I suspect they went back to where they came from with one thousand baht while the teachers took the rest of the money.

All those artistic artifacts, we have those for safe keeping.

The former owners can come to our museums and see them anytime.

This is the bit I don't get: 150000 to speak at a short seminar in Thailand doesn't look exorbitant to me, even rather small. Unless the seminars didn't happen, but no proof of that has been mentioned.

Flights, posh hotel and an escorted night on Soi Cowboy included. 

The photo shows NINE cops.  I stopped going to Bang Saen because it was a totally lawless resort where the police were completely invisible.

Again not reading properly. The statement was "The arrest concerns complaints received and investigated upon by the authorities that millions of baht went missing from a 1.1 billion baht Groundwater Resource Management fund back in January 2018." So 1.1 billion baht was the sum "available", but there were complaints that "millions of baht went missing". As far as I am aware, complaints do not constitute evidence, and in any case this is only talking about 450,000 baht.

Biggest problem is that this is Bred into the population for Centuries and now impossible to stop this.

If the RTP do nothing here they are criticised, same if they do something.

 

But  there does seem to be a concentration of effort on cases where there might be a pot of gold at the end. The money never seems to return to the Government budget, strange.
