Iconic Thai cartoon turns into animation for TV

A series of cartoon strips in a mass-circulation newspaper debut 50 years ago and books from 1976 “Kabuan Karn Gae Jon” (Anti-Poverty Club) remain highly popular among fans of Thai cartoon series and the books have become rare used-book items that are sought after by book lovers.

NBTC board member explains why she opposes True-DTAC merger

A board member of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), Professor Dr. Pirongrong Ramasoota, has explained why she disagrees with the planned merger between True Corporation and Total Access Communications (DTAC) at the board’s 11-hour meeting yesterday (Thursday), which she described as the “longest meeting of her life.”

Commerce Ministry closely monitoring retail prices

BANGKOK (NNT) - Officials from the Department of Internal Trade inspected the retail pricing of goods at key outlets to prevent price gouging. The department said there is enough goods inventory to meet the current demand, including in flooded areas.

Spouses of cabinet ministers inspect museum venue that will host APEC leaders’ spouses

BANGKOK (NNT) - The spouses of cabinet ministers have conducted an inspection of a museum in Ayutthaya that will host the spouses of APEC leaders in November. The Arts of the Kingdom museum is among the venues that will be visited by the dependents of APEC leaders during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

Thai policeman admits to stealing over 100 guns from Pak Kret police station

A non-commissioned police officer, attached to Pak Kret district police in Nonthaburi Province, is in custody on theft charges for allegedly selling or pawning more than 100 handguns, which he had allegedly stolen from the district police’s store room over the past five years.

Tour bus catches on fire after tire explosion in Samut Songkram

About 21 passengers ran for their lives after a tire of a tour bus on the Ratchathani-Phuket route reportedly exploded on Rama 2 road in the early hours of Friday morning, October 21st, causing the bus to catch on fire.

Former school director gets 192 years in prison over school lunch scandal

The former director of a kindergarten, in Thailand’s southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, has been sentenced to 192 years in prison, without suspension, for cheating children out of their free lunch funding, by providing them with just rice noodles and fish sauce.

Thai FDA urges Mie Sedaap distributor to order sales suspension of all flavours available

The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday, October 21st, ordered a selling suspension of all Mie Sedaap instant noodles from Indonesia, after they detected ethylene oxide, a substance commonly found in pesticides, in Mie Sedaap flavours sold in Thailand.
