A 22-year-old motorcyclist was injured after he ran into a wire hanging at neck-level across the road in Sri Racha.

The incident took place in the early hours of October 23rd in Soi Boa Yang in the Nongkham subdistrict of Sri Racha. The victim, Mr. Weerapat Ruangkarin, 22, showed a long red bruise around his neck to The Pattaya News, saying he was choked by a low-hanging wire.

Weerapat stated that he was riding his motorcycle to a restaurant. At first, there was no wire across the road, but while he was riding on the same way to his home, Weerapat got swept off his bike to the ground by a thin wire. He said he was very lucky because he was riding at low speed.

Another reason never to ride a motorbike in Thailand, but there are just so many reasons that you are just taking your life in your own hands when you get on a motorbike. And you think your insurance will cover you for injury? Ha, think again.

People should prosecute the Government and institutions for causing dangerous situations or bad maintenance of the wires......

With this kind of fear I’m surprised you made it onto a plane.... let alone crossing a road in Thailand !!!...

Why would my insurance not cover me for injury ?

IF those in positions of responsibility and decision making power were held responsible for such issues they would be dealt with very quickly.

There is slow improvement - but its starting decades too late.

When you are born in a country that favors the rich, there is very little choice for the majority!

What?

Land of ear to ear smiles with garroting and one more than lucky man ????

For safety sake, if nothing else....these low hanging wires should simply just be cut!

Agreed. If there was a 1 million baht fine every tine this happened, it would happen, far far les, as the companies would have people out there checking on their wires

Agreed - who would cut the power cable with a pair of secateurs/pliers?

I'd say there'd be plenty of unskilled wannabe electricians that would volunteer their service for a modest price!

Yes. Not my cup-a-tea to be cutting dodgy wires????????

Did that with us the week before last. Severed and disposed of all data cables. ISP's strung new cables for their customers after they complained of loss of service. We were off from Friday to Thursday. A credit of 71.16 baht has appeared upon my Internet account. Assuming it's compensation for loss of service?

lucky he did not lose his head.

Those damned deformation laws... if only you could name the culprits.

Just tie a line, not a wire around them.  Attach the other end to a car or truck and drive away.  If you get tired of doing this on very low wires just raise your target.

Dont you mean per month?

I can almost reach the wires hanging down across the front of our property and the poles either side are leaning at 10/15 degrees......wouldn't even cross my mind to try and get the PEA to do anything about it.

Interestingly, it was the PEA not the ISP's who chopped all our fibre data cables the week before last. The man was an animal, leaving no internet connections for anyone.
