I visiting Thailand for 6 weeks and I am bringing my laptop. What type of adapter do I need to plug in my charger? Can I purchase the adapter in Thailand. Thanks.

Where are you coming from? What type of plug do you already have?

Actually, unless you have some really weird plug you'll be fine, plenty of multi socket adaptors available everywhere. Thailand uses the US style flat pin 2 or 3 prong plug.

BEWARE Thailand is 220V 50Hz power, most laptops have universal power supplies, best to check though.

Off topic - I bought a laptop last week and wonder about charging it. When I leave it on for a few hours I get 2 hours battery time - is this normal? I expected more.

When charging, can the computer be switched off?

All airports have adaptors.

as the other post says youll be fine no problems, those little travel adaptors for about a quid are fine, if ya gonna book a hotel there are some offer free wifi out here, just on that though, if you aint been here before, most bars (well a lot) offer free internet, so if ya just checking emails maybe leave laptop at home save lugging it around!

good luck.

2hrs?? I'm seeing about 5 - 5.5 with mine - and that's with wifi enabled, but screen dimmed a lot.

I am coming from the US. I am concerned if I need one of the 50 volt converter also.

Look on your AC adaptor. It should say what input voltage range it will accept. I've taken 2 US laptops to Thailand (Compaq & Apple) & both had universal adaptors with an input range of 110-240 volts. Yours should be similar, but check to be sure.

And your US plug will fit, no adaptor required :o

Just a tip, OP.

If you're using a laptop in LOS, take a stabilised power supply with you.

I've seen a couple of laptops doing strange tricks over there, the Thai grid isn't very reliable.
