Department of Rural Roads constructs coastal highway on eastern seaboard

The Department of Rural Roads is expediting construction of a coastal road through Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces in order to develop coastal tourism.

The Department of Rural Roads is proceeding with the construction of a coastal highway which is expected to run for 114 kilometers through Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces. The road is expected to promote international coastal tourism in these provinces. The Deputy Governor of Rayong province Mr. Sunthorn Rattanawaraha(สุนทร รัตนะวราหะ) directed contractual bidding for the road's construction with more than 429 bidders participating.

The road's name is expected to be Chalerm Burapha Cholthit (เฉลิมบูรพาชลทิศ) Road, in commemoration of His Majesty the King. The Department of Rural Roads believes that project will take 5 years to complete from 2006-2010, at a cost of 2.7 billion baht.
