BANGKOK (NNT) - Government spokesman said the preparation for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) in Thailand is almost complete, while the Prime Minister has urged the general public to help maintain peace and order during the event.

Government Spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said the preparation is now 90% complete, including the reception of economic leaders, the venues, meeting topics, and security.

He said the government has now received some 2,000 applications from international media to cover the event.

The AELW 2022 will officially commence on 14 November, with the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha presiding over an exhibition on the Bio-Circular-Green Economic model, which is being promoted by Thailand as the host country of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) this year.

Prior to the event, the Prime Minister will be attending the ASEAN Summit in Cambodia on 10-13 November, while leaders from APEC economies are expected to arrive in Thailand ahead of the official meeting date.

The Prime Minister has asked for cooperation from all sides to help maintain peace and order, while urging members of the media to be careful when presenting news that may affect the event.

Leaders from 15 countries have so far accepted the invitation to attend the AELW in person, while the United States, South Korea, Malaysia, and Chinese Taipei will be sending official delegates to participate in the event. The leader of Russia has yet to officially respond to the invitation.

The Prime Minister will also be holding official meetings and discussions at the government house with leaders and officials from Vietnam, China, and Saudi Arabia during the leader’s week.
