BANGKOK (NNT) - Thai and Swedish representatives from the public and private sectors have exchanged views on wastewater management and water crises, as well as technology and innovations for the purpose of sustainable water management.

During the talks, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipun noted that water is the basis of life and climate change has caused a quickening of the water cycle.

Bangkok regularly experiences floods as well as problems with wastewater. As a short-term response, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has dredged sewers and canals to improve drainage. Taking a longer view, Governor Chadchart said new waterways must be created to shorten distances between sewers and the river.

In the area of wastewater treatment, the BMA operates eight major treatment plants that accommodate 22 of Bangkok’s 50 districts, prioritizing the treatment of wastewater discharged from households. Treatment systems have been installed at locations where wastewater most commonly accumulates, such as large fresh markets like Khlong Toei.

A seminar involving Thai and Swedish participants was held at Bangkok’s Bangsue Environmental Education and Conservation Center to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experience. Also covered were major projects and initiatives addressing water management in Thailand.

Additionally, those attending the event discussed future Thai-Swedish cooperation, as well as innovations that can help ensure sustainable water management.

Thailand and Sweden Discuss Wastewater Management

Be one hell of a long drainage pipe

Thailand has abundant supplies of water during the rainy season and none during the drought season.  Perhaps Sweden can make some suggestions about this.
