BANGKOK (NNT) - Tackling narcotics is considered a national agenda, with Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha earlier this week unveiling the government’s urgent phase action plan for addressing the issue.

 

The unveiling saw the attendance of representatives from various Thai and foreign agencies, including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Foreign Anti-Narcotics and Crime Community of Thailand (FANC).

 

On this occasion, the prime minister witnessed the presentation of monetary awards for officials involved in asset seizures in major drug cases in 2022.

 

About 8 million baht was awarded to officials who worked on four cases, equivalent to a 30% cut from the value of assets seized in the cases.

 

The premier also delivered his policy for cracking down on narcotics, acknowledging that the drug issue is complicated and impacts national security.

 

Addressing it therefore requires prevention, suppression and rehabilitation efforts, as well as collaboration with neighboring countries.

 

The government has revised relevant laws to improve the efficiency of suppression and efforts to arrest traffickers and sellers, effectively leading to the seizure of 11.1 billion baht worth of drugs.

 

Gen Prayut meanwhile urged educational institutes to remain safe zones against drugs and called for family support against drug use, as well as the rehabilitation of drug users.

 

Sub-district-level teams will also monitor communities for drug users while security forces work to safeguard borders against traffickers and seize the assets of trafficking rings.

 

The prime minister also warned that agency authorities will be held accountable for drug offenses committed by subordinates, adding that informants must be protected accordingly.

Is not "Tackling narcotics" a prime concern of ISOC, General Prayut?

It's enough that they will further liberalise ganja laws and hard drugs problem will solve itself over time. But it looks like new laws go the other direction. 
Ganja would be next to free, as in the past, if people can grow it by themselves. A natural medicine and traditional relaxant used for thousands years. 
High age limit for ganja use, which is now 20, pushes youngsters into hands of hard drug peddlers. 
Yaba price fall to record levels and dealers will cease their work if there is not much profit and big risk of serious sentences. They would be smuggling to countries where they can make large profits.

Plus extortion by torture, to double his income. That way he didn't have to run lengthy investigation to trace drug money
And also likely selling back drugs confiscated from dealers, which would make him more than 30% of trophy. Not sure how far investigation went in his case. He was charged only with murder and sentenced very fast, within months. If investigators wanted to work harder and take longer they look into his background

Has ruled with absolute power for eight years, just now getting around to combating meth.

 

His "Twenty-Year Plan" is back-end loaded apparently.

Go to Myanmar and tell them to stop their military people making drugs!

But then you may have to stop Thai collaborators dealing with them....and that's too hard!

Yeah and he took the sentence without appeal and kept his mouth shut. So I'm sure he'll be taken care of and also almost automatic parole after 1/3 served ( if I remember correctly) 

Sadly those multi-million pill siezers from "small time" dealers is a weekly event. If you think about it for a second, if they're catching that much then how much is actully getting thru?
