A panel has been set up to look into claims by a former politician that senior immigration officials took bribes of between 100 to 300, thousand baht per time in exchange for approving non immigrant visa applications to Chinese nationals that had entered on a tourist visa. 


More than 3,300 visa’s were allegedly approved at immigration offices in Khon Kaen and Karasin between 2018 and 2020.

 

Health authorities say the number of Covid related inpatients has seen an increase in the capital and suburbs, serious cases and fatalities have also increased. The rise was usually seen following gatherings of social events. The advice is to obtain booster shots and continue to take precautions.


The owner of a  gold shop shot and wounded one of four men trying to rob his gold store in Tak yesterday.


The men approached the shop and opened fire then kicked the door open, the store owner fired at them killing one and injuring another man who was later arrested by the police, two robbers managed to escape .

 

The NBTC Broadcast regulator has decided to request the return of 600 million baht from the Sports Authority which funded the broadcast rights to the Fifa World Cup,  saying iptv subscribers were unable to watch the matches. If the Sports authority fails to repay funds within 15 days it could face an interest rate of 5% per annum. Fifa had previously warned the NBTC to ensure matches could not be viewed overseas usually via iptv channels.

Hong Kong’s government said the isolation period for COVID-19 patients and their close contacts will be reduced from seven to five days.


Daily testing for arrivals into Hong Kong will also be reduced from seven to five days.


Mandatory mask wearing and the use of a contact tracing app in public buildings, bars and restaurants, will remain until Dec 28.


Covid related hospital admissions continue to rise in Hong Kong.
