Pattaya/Jomtien-Pattaya officials have advised local residents and tourists that they will be finally fixing the much maligned on social media raised storm drains on Threpprasit Road but this will cause significant traffic delays during the paving project.

 

The raised drains have been posted nearly daily on Thai watchdog and discussion forums with many residents continuing to urge the city to fix them, stating they are a major accident hazard and do nothing to drain out flooding.

 

Pattaya City is teaming with relevant contractors to fix the drains and pave Threpprasit with asphalt from December 13th to the 24th.

How about all the man holes that are already level with road? problem?

My first job was on a paving crew.

There are manhole rings/spacers which fit under the manhole lid and on the concrete to bring the level up to the paved surface.

If they have these in Thailand is anybody's guess

There is supposed to be some collar that goes around to raise it to the new level... heaven forbid that is not done and we and up with a drop to the drains!

Two years+ of Covid we had where there was nobody about to do this and it sounds like they waited for peak season!

If they just put as much effort into construction as they put in photoshop...

Help Theprasit forever by towing away all double parkers!

The Thepprasit road surface has remained in good condition for many years because it's made of reinforced concrete, which the construction people here know how to lay, unlike asphalt. Look at the huge mess that was Jomtien Second Road for years and years after it was built, because the poorly-laid asphalt surface ended up looking like Passchendaele. So now, after three years of traffic snarl ups on Thepprasit, we're now going to end up with a pot-holed highway and yet more endless repairs, until someone in City Hall gets his two functioning brain cells working and figures out that the asphalt needs to be replaced with reinforced concrete.

What a waste of money they put in larger drains both sides that still drains to the smaller pipes at the beach.  Concept to try to store the water under ground so not on the surface to noticed the flooding. 

Thinking is still the dark ages,  the new drains are two inches above the surface of the original road which is in fine condition to match the higher drain they will now destroy the road repave to match the height of the drains. 

The pavements will become gathering places for groups of Thais to gossip and force passing pedestrians into the road.  Next will come the mobile vendors who will set up shop causing customers to double park and narrowing the road to one lane of traffic.  Finally the police will arrive to 'check licences/permits/tea money.'  

Oh dear me I've just booked a resort on that road over Christmas ..new year ..only me eh only me 

Well, I'm going to go against the grain on this one, and side with the much maligned Pattaya/Jomtien-Pattaya officials.

 

If they got it right the first time, then how on Earth are they expected to accrue generational wealth for their cohorts and families ?

 

To hear some of the opinions on here, you would think that once these developemental budget allocations have been tongue punched for,  these highly esteemed stalwarts of community spirit would think "sod 'em" - regardless of living in Gomorrah ?

 

Madness.

Like Thepprasit isn't already bogged down by all the road construction they're doing now, they've decided to add to it during peak travel season ????

Sounds good but we are in Thailand where its common to have drains\main holes well below the surface so are a nightmare when cycling or on a motorbike

Nobody here to see them work under covid , need people to see them work slow to justifi a 500 million budsjet for something that probably cost 100 million , I think in foreigner country we call it cooruption but here its called the Thai way. 

I saw loads of people working on Thepprasit today. Then I woke up.

They were tarmacking the top part today, I couldn't see them working on the manholes so maybe just covered up

Another corrupt job to steal more taxpayers money, keystone cops construction all over...

Wonder how long it will really take.

Maybe they should have a scoring system of the cleanest beaches like they do in the u.k, people avoid them places & they will soon clean up there act......
