General Damrongsak Kittiprapat updated reporters on the reorganisation of the Du Hao case linked with Chinese drug networks and Mr Chaiyanat Kornchayanant on Tuesday. The police commissioner is taking over responsibility for the case while delegating key areas to senior officers while Deputy National Police Commissioner Surachate Hakparn will continue to play a pivotal and coordinating role.

Last week, the chief whistleblower, in this case, veteran former politician Mr Chuwit Kamolvisit who Minister of Justice Somsak Thepsutin has highly praised, expressed unease at the narrow range of charges being pursued against Mr Chaiyanat Kornchayanant. As part of this week’s move by the National Police Commissioner General Damrongsak Kittiprapat, it is understood that a submission on the case will be made to the Office of the Attorney-General so that it can be pursued as a transnational crime case, giving police and prosecution agencies more power.

The Thai police commissioner General Damrongsak Kittiprapat has taken over responsibility for the case involving the alleged Chinese drug mafia network linked with Mr Du Hao or Chaiyanat Kornchayanant. Police General Surachate Hakparn or ‘Big Joke’ will continue to play a crucial coordinating role with the Metropolitan Police Bureau Commissioner Police Lieutenant General Thiti Saengsawang handling the investigation into drugs being sold at exclusive nightclubs in Bangkok while the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) Chief General Torsak Sukwimol will take charge of suppression activities concerning the extended gang network and the use of ‘grey capital’ which has been linked with extensive property purchases. Alleged malfeasance within the Immigration Bureau is being reviewed by a high-ranking civil service commission. General Damrongsak Kittiprapat, on Tuesday, promised further updates this week on this case and assured the public that every aspect of the matter was being pursued by a united team working well together. 

 

Following an announcement on Monday by the National Police Commissioner General Damrongsak Kittiprapat that he was taking over supervision of the DU Hao case and associated investigations into the operation of a suspected Chinese illicit drug network which has also been linked, in the last week, to allegations of malfeasance within the Immigration Bureau.

There must be one helluva brown envelope in this one for the Chief of Police to muscle his way 8n ????????????

Are the major business houses including brewers not headed by such naturalized Chinese over years? a good chunk of capital city is owned by them and hailed as HiSo!

I guess the investigation was progressing well, too well, and some were feeling the heat!

Like everything they make a Big Bang out of everything photo op etc etc,  to show the Thai people they are on top sqeekie clean then slowly remove him but he will still be helping? 

Those taking over basically can't be removed so all will happen it will get slowly swept under stretch out like the Red Bull case that is how it is solved.

The Big Chief steps in, The Big Joke gets relegated, and Immigration gets to be investigated "by  a high-ranking civil service commission"...

Depends on how you look at the definition of clean.  He made his fortune with the system he blows now,  he was elected MP,  based on his connection when he was in office what did he actually do? He is from the same system just like the red/yellow/blue whatever they fight because when not in power they don't get their cut. 

Had any really change with the coup and Army puppet in charge. Years back after two years it was reported he had a billion in a Swiss account? 

 Chuwit speaks now because of his patriotism for his country he see how the Chinese Triads have entrench themselves into his government slowly slipping out of control and can't see whatever influence he has gone. 

He isn't clean no Thai in government is as reported 32 plus provinces that is half the country. Clean isn't what he is after being dirty is a way of life for them. Guys like him all have a price when he gets his just like this case he will slip under the radar. 

IMO the appointment of Police Chief Damrongsak is to speed up the investigation and prosecution process. Previously, Pol Gen Srachate Hakparn (BJ), who is the depity national police chief was assigned to supervise the investigation, which was being handled by a police investigation team headed by the commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau. This layered investigation process will slowed down the investigation which was criticized by Chuwit as being "too slow". In response, Damrongsak decided to take charge personally. He has lots to prove as he will retire in 2023. Prayut also has vested political interest to have those criminally involved prosecuted. 

'Big Joke' was doing too well in his investigations, by the look of it?

Question now is, will this investigation continue? or get buried?

I'm reminded of Allen Dulles, the ex-CIA chief, heading up the Warren Commission investigation

into JFK's murder.  Fox guarding the henhouse.
