Football -  Brazilian football legend Pele, arguably the greatest player ever, has died at the age of 82. He is credited with scoring a world record 1,281 goals in 1,363 appearances during a 21-year career, including 77 goals in 92 matches for his country. The only player to win the World Cup three times, lifting the trophy in 1958, 1962 and 1970, Pele whose full name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento was named Fifa's Player of the Century in 2000.

 

Defending champions Thailand earned a credible 1-1 draw with Indonesia after playing in their Asian Football Federation Cup match last night for the last half hour with only 10 men as Sanawarat Dechmitr was sent off in the 62 minute. The draw means the War Elephants remain top of Group A.

Cricket - Australia thrashed South Africa by an innings and 182 runs in the second Test to win the series with a game to spare. Resuming on 15-1, South Africa were bowled out for 204 before tea on the fourth day at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

 

Winter Sport - Austria's Matthias Mayer has announced his surprise retirement after a glittering career that featured three Olympic golds and 11 World Cup wins. The 32-year-old, the son of ex-racer Helmet Mayer, won gold at Sochi 2014, Pyeongchang 2018 and Beijing 2022.
