webfact 181661
The main focus of Thai politics this year will be the general election, bargaining to form a new government, and possible constitutional amendment. Analysts expect the already intense political conflict to deepen following the election, tentatively scheduled for May. Rival alliances will fight to form a new coalition government, but many experts predict General Prayut Chan-o-cha will return as prime minister to lead the ruling coalition. The national vote will dominate politics in the first half of 2023 while the latter half will see frenzied bargaining and lobbying as political parties vie for government power, observers say. Election delay possible However, it remains unclear if the next election will be held as scheduled as the revised MP Election Act is still awaiting royal endorsement, said Stithorn Thananithichot, director of King Prajadhipok Institute’s Office of Innovation for Democracy. tomazbodner 9703
Signs outside from a very honest candidate for this area, claiming if elected, he would end the blacklist for loans. Very clever... I suspect there must be his pal somewhere else campaigning with forcing banks to give loans to everyone...

And then on the great day itself there will almost certainly be a zealously-enforced (for all and sundry, including expats who don't have the vote) nationwide booze ban in place from 18:00 the previous day, since we cannot possibly run the unacceptable risk of having electors hauled in by the BIB for VUI (voting under the influence), can we? 😡 Edited January 10 by OJAS

jcmj 1425
Don’t worry. By the time the election rolls in the Covid cases will have exploded and the military will need to step in to control it. Good timing China. I’m sure you’ll get a basket of beef broth from Prayut. 😉
