INN reported on a meeting at the Nonthaburi Palace Hotel that kicked off yesterday and lasts until tomorrow.

It is a meeting of ISOC - the Internal Security Operations Command, the political arm of the Thai military.

Chaired by its leader Lt-Gen Wiphusana Khlaimanee there were representatives from many other state sectors including the RTP, justice and interior ministries, the Anti-Money Laundering Office or AMLO and the DSI - 80 participants in all.

Top of their agenda was combatting international crime as well as improving capabilities among their forces.

Wiphusana said that "International crime is a threat to Thai security in many ways".

He noted that there had been a big rise in tourism and along with this would come crime.

Criminals would use the cover of tourism to create trouble.

It was up to Thailand to protect itself from damage to society, the economy, political structures and development that international crime can bring, he said.

Yes but I wonder if it crossed any minds as to why Thailand would be attractive to international crime....maybe something that runs rife in the government and police force?

Oh no, it must be those ruthless outsiders of course.

Criminals will cause trouble. (Duh!)  Damage to society.  Who talks this simplistically other than 8 year olds. Sheesh!

Why do they make up these false claims? Even with the first intake of Chinese a few days ago, tourism won't get back to pre-Covid days for a long, long time - if ever.

Seems they don't like international crime because foreign criminals are cleverer and better than Thai criminals and that's simply not allowed as it makes Thailand look bad! <deleted> get a grip lads (generals) and effectively police all crime no matter how minor and stop the corrupt payoffs. That would be good start!

If it's not treading on their patch, they'll probably want a franchise deal, at least.

So if big names from Myanmar are involved....But I guesthouse would not be considered "International" crooks??

On the 'professions reserved for Thai nationals list' they should add 'criminals'...

All intent on blaming the farang whilst ignoring the elephant in the room; the corrupt nature of all the above listed parties.
