Hi All,

Many thanks to the senior members for the helpful info they have posted in the past - I would appreciate views/clarification on the following - I've been granted a 1 YR ext on an NON O visa (Thai wife) _ I plan to exit and re-entry in a month but I may prolong the stay until shortly before the visa is due to expire. Meaning I have a 12 month extension - I leave shortly and have stated on my EX/ReE form that I will return next month - but I may not return for 11 months.

btw congrats to dbren on citizenship

Any views >?

A re-entry permit is always valid until the current permitted to stay stamp in your passport. Which is why you would wait until the final approval is received if you first get a 30 day under consideration stamp and you don't need to travel during that time (as the re-entry would have the same 30 day date). Its function is to keep that permitted to stay until stamp alive.

Thanks lopburi

I understand that I can leave now (after having, just this week, been granted a 12 month ext) and return (11 months later) a month before the extension will expire ?

Senior members might appreciate why I might use this option (no income vs 400K in the bank) ?

Thanks

hi Lopburi3,

I'd like to add to my last reply - would leaving on an Exit/Re-entry allow me to do my busines overseas (for the validity of my extension) and return on the 'grandfather " thingy (400K in the bank) before the ext expires ?.

1. Yes you can leave and return any time before the re-entry permit expires to complete your extension of stay (and apply for new one).

2. If you obtained the extension using 400k bank account this year you should not have a problem doing the same next year (if you have the money in the bank).

Thanks again lopburi3

I suppose this thread is closed but I'm a wee bit concerned re some threads I've read that have stated (without substance) that the grandfather clause may be shelved in a year or so.

Thanks again
