Thai police bust illegal Chinese funded factories handling imported electronic waste

Daily News reported that officers from Thailand's Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Division and local officials responded to complaints about air pollution coming from two factories in the Lamlukka area of Pathum Thani, north of Bangkok.

 

At the factories in question 200 tons of imported electronic waste was being processed.

 

Machinery was seized such as presses.

 

The executives of both factories face charges of illegal operation, illegal possession of category three restricted items and conducting an illegal enterprise.

Chinese funded operation or just Thais importing illegally from China?

Electronics has some very toxic stuff being processed, lucrative when done in the absence of environmental controls. These kinds of business will get more common when they start recycling EVs everywhere, regardless of the country of origin.

Perhaps the government might acknowledge there is a need for more recycling. If the result of operation Sword in China resulted in no imports of waste here there could have been an attempt to bring Thai recyclers into line. 

If anyone recycles illegally close them down and offer companies the opportunity to take over following the rules and laws.

200t is a lot. Perhaps checking customs clearance mob who let the shipment through would be a good place to start, if they’re serious about it.

I guess they'll be given special permits, instead of having to setup shop in Cambodia.
