BANGKOK, Jan 23 (TNA) – No police mtorcade and motorcycle escort service is allowed for tourists, said Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in response to a video clip, posted by a Chinese visitor, who claimed she paid for the special treatment, provided by officials from Suvarnabhumi Airport to her hotel in Pattaya.

Two traffic and one tourist police officers appeared in a video clip of the Chinese female tourist. She also mentioned the immigration clearance shortcut after arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The policemen seen in the clip were transferred to inactive posts pending the investigation and their supervisors are being investigated for possible involvement in providing the service to the Chinese visitor.

Why is the Health minister giving this briefing and not a more appropriate cabinet member like Prawit....is this now a health concern.

Prawit hasn't woken up from his December nap yet.

Inserting a "Pinocchio meme" here would be such a Dad joke.

Edited by ignore it

But allowed for any ‘non-tourist’ ???

This stuff has been going on for years... Know anyone in a resemble position in the RTP and they can meet you at the gate, fast track you get you home quickly with 2 outriders (motorcycle) and flashing lights....  (10,000 baht was the going rate)....

They may stop it for a couple of weeks until the issue dies down... then they’ll be back at it again.

The next time the BiB blocks traffic and a Police Escort burns through the lights... its someone doing a favour for their mate, for a price of course !

It's not a health concern... it an ‘anti-tourist' (ergo foreigner) concern...   and topping the list to make any announcement which targets, blames or focuses anything negative on tourists in any way or form is...  ...you guessed it !!...

In this case... We’re no long going to allow tourists to corrupt our fine police force !!!! :whistling:

We know it's not legal, but like everything else in Thailand illegal goes on... for a price.

He's not getting his cut then.

So the DPM tells us that it's illegal, and they will be sacked and prosecuted for the illegal use of taxpayers resources then. 555

More hot air from the billionaire ganja promoter as he's not been in the media spotlight lately.

Because he is a Deputy Prime Minister.

"...it an ‘anti-tourist' (ergo foreigner) concern..."

No, it is not that.  He is Deputy PM, that's why he is involved.

Just as happens in your country also.

I know.....  but it also appears that this specific Dept PM has made more announcements than any other PM to paint non-Thai’s in a less than favourable light.

In my 25 years here, this man more than any other politician has contributed towards an underlying xenophobic sentiment.

Perhaps this is just my bias, but I read a deep-seated dislike of foreigners in many of this mans public comments such that I suspect he holds a genuine dislike for foreigners.

It seems he doesn’t miss an opportunity to make such announcements... Why not announce No Legal Police Motorcade for all non-official arrivals ??

OF course, LL - I’m sure you’ll want to mention the technicality that ’tourists’ could mean Thai’s too... but we know Anutin doesn’t mean than... (and no, I can’t he doesn’t meant that, so you can forget about throwing that technicality in my direction as well !!)...

Motorcades should be banned, also for busses with daytrip people/students, minivans with so xalled hiso's and so on. Only for royalty is ok and for trucks and transport of exceptional things for safety... Normal road usage for everyone.. Nobody has to go aside  for other common people

No, I won't be mentioning that "technicality", sorry to disappoint you, I won't even be reading it!

The Highway Patrol in Western countries is used to stop and ticket drivers committing moving violations, therefore helping limit that number of dangerous drivers on the road.

The Highway Patrol in Thailand is used to escort elites, therefore helping Thailand have The Most Dangerous Roads In The World.
