Prisons' chief issues "7 Dont's and 3 Do's" when it comes to convicts working outside - follow them or face jail yourself!

Siam Rath reported that the director of the Corrections Department that oversees Thailand's prisons had issued a list of Do's and Don't's when it comes to prisoners allowed to work outside prison walls.

 

Prisoners working in the streets were a common sight before the pandemic, notes ASEAN NOW. Now they are back working.

 

Ayut Sinthaphaphon revealed that 600 inmates along with 80 staff from 19 prisons were now being praised for their efforts.

 

The convicts come from prisons in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Nakhon Pathom, Suphanburi, Ayutthaya, Saraburi and Chachoengsao - all provinces in the central region of Thailand.

 

 

The Don'ts are:

 

Don't give prisoners alcohol, drugs, money, weapons or allow them to use communication devices or take rides. Also don't disturb them while they are on the job.

 

The small print warned of 5 years jail or fines for violators of these rules.

 

On the Do's side the public were asked to be supportive by smiling and encouraging prisoners to reintegrate, give them a chance to get back into society and live happily together and embrace them as part of the community by showing your acceptance.

That's important ...

 

Cheap labour to clean out the sewers , do they get time off their sentence for this ,or

just happy to get outside the walls ......and into the sewers..

I would think these work release prisoners are under surveillance at all times.  Or should be.  So the general public should not be able to get within a certain distance to begin with.

Love the list of dont's. It's sort of blindingly obvious not to give them food, drinks and your car keys.

 

They should have led with the list of do's - they are far better.

I’ve seen a prisoner walking around in hospital handcuffs and leg irons. Guessing for medical reason 

looked like his escort was on other side of the waiting area..

I understand this amounts to good behavior and should help when risk pardons are given. Good luck to them.

There's a successful pre-release program in Chanthaburi, providing training in cooking, hospitality and retail skills at a cafe and restaurant "Inspire By Princess". Inmates built the buildings over a small lake, raised boardwalks, two replica French buildings (jail and barracks - originals at Laem Sing) and ongoing development of gardens. Nice project think this would be it's seventh year of operation.
