Hello everybody,

Can somebody please clarify the process to getting a non immgrant B visa and what they are for? I am under the impression that you get a non immigrant b visa in order the qualify for a work permit, so where is the need for mutliple entry non immigrant b visas? Is it for people that take 1 year to sort out their work permits?

Any help would be great

A non immigrant B visa allows work but could be used by business travelers as well.

A work permit does not allow you to stay longer than your current visa entry. So even with a work permit you need to enter on a new 90 day visa entry to continue your stay. Only a few can qualify for Immigration extension of stay immediately so most will spend some time using 90 day visa entries and re-validating there work permit every 90 days.

Dear Ruds, a non-immigrant B entitles you to work legally(with a work permit) in Thailand. You can also obtain a work permit on a non-imm. "O". Some teachers go back to their home countries and obtain non-imm. B's, multiple entry. These teachers usually do not getwork permits and if they "do it right" get almost 15 months on a multiple entry visa. The process is clear and transparent for a single entry "B". Arrive in Thailand and apply for a work permit with your company documentation. Teacher's must obtain a teacher's licence first ( private schools/ central Thailand etc.) Once your visa is extended by immigration on the basis of you having a work permit, then you and your visa are tied to the company you work for. Some posters on this website say that they will now give you 12 months on top of the time that you have arrived. Best of luck and check out the official Thai immigration web site. Footnote: nothing dealing with immigration is set in stone. Peace.

I have a non-B multi entry and a work permit. I need to make regular trips outside Thailand as part of my job so the multi aspect is crucial for me.

Some jobs may give you a work permit, but the salary is not sufficient to justify an extension for one year,

so you get a multi-entry and do a visa run every 3 months. :o

If you can get the full year extension this is the best way, then get a re-entry permit if you need to travel. :D
