I've had a Crucial MX500 as my system drive for the last five years. It's stayed on M3CR023 the entire time. Never a problem, great drive.

Firstly, I enabled Momentum Cache. And then, I was able to update the firmware.

Crucial Storage Executive has been updated to the version 9.01.012023.01 (this update should address the firmware update issues).

Just install it over the previous version.
