Daily News Thai Caption: Does he have depression?

Thai media was full of reports of a horrendous attack on a security guard by a house owner at a housing estate on the Hathairat Road in the Samwa area of the Thai capital Bangkok yesterday morning.

A video published by Amarin TV of CCTV at the control point at the entrance to the estate showed a man with a baseball bat stride up and batter a man out of shot 14 times at 7.54.

The grievously injured guard is fighting for his life in hospital with a fractured skull and broken arm.

The father of the attacker said he had no idea what it was about but that his son is clinically depressed. He would take care of everything on behalf of his son.

Daily News followed up with a visit to the estate.

They spoke to Wathin Sudta, 46, who said that the victim was his colleague and head of the morning shift Montree Khamsingnork, 27.

They were employees of the Rungpetch Engineering Guard Co.

He said that around 8 am a 30-35 year old man in white shirt and black shorts walked up after he had just got back from buying ice at the behest of Montree, the shift leader.

He hit Montree nearly 20 times despite the colleague's "wai" in an effort to stop the attack.

The assailant was shouting: "Maa daa goo thammai" - why did you have a go at me?

Wathin said that Montree has been a guard for many years and had no issues with anyone and had not mentioned any problems to him. It was all caught on CCTV.

At 12.30 relatives of the stricken guard went to the Khanna Yao police to file a complaint and submitted the CCTV.

The father of the assailant turned up to say that his son had got a bachelor's degree many years ago but had been unable to find work and got stressed.

This developed into clinical depression. He had no idea what sparked him off.

He said he would accept full responsibility on behalf of the son and visit the victim in hospital.

Right.. Before we had "microsleep" and all that crapola as an excuse, now we have "depressed".  Someone is going hard in the dictionary trying to find excuse words for why adults in this country act like brats..

So everything is alrighty then!!

Might take a bit more than a basket of chicken delight and a Wai to sort this out.

Your son should be arrested and on the way to court followed by jail time for attempted manslaughter.

<deleted>* what a violence

Another Thai underachiever who doesn’t know how handle getting a butthurt.

Meth head. Whack job dirt bag, has a BA but needs further education in the slammer.

Depressed my butt.

That usually happens when you study really useless subjects like media studies, modern art , ethnic studies, or the songs of Abba

So if anyone says anything negative about this literal "Thai-basher", are we then "Thai-basher-bashers"?

I agree, but it would be attempted murder.  By it's very definition, I don't think you can "attempt" manslaughter.

.....attempted murder by the sound of it.

I wish the guard a speedy recovery, and hope his family are well supported by the thug's father until he's fit again.

No it is not racist! Try a dictionary before posting. Thailand is a country and scratch the surface and its very violent and offence is a go to excuse for killing someone and happens almost on a daily occurrence. Thai on Thai or Thai on foreign it matters not even old or young so all walk on egg shells.....

nobody plays baseball in thailand.

yet they have baseball bats.

I hate to say it, but the monkey with a bat will have his father "paying" for everything and the guard is a poor guy with a poorer family who will happily not put any charges by seeing a few 10,000 baht notes.
Without the guard or his family putting charges, the case is dismissed.
Sad but true.

I saw baseball bats for sale at a local market and asked the seller, "people play baseball here?". His answer was, "those aren't for hitting balls, they are for hitting people".

that's lovely.

proof that god exists ... at last!

So two cars pull up and do nothing to try to stop this head case beating the <deleted> out of this poor guy, very lucky he is not dead. The very least I would have done is drive my car at him. :shock1:

The near total lack of community based mental health resources in Thailand leads to such violent behavior.

Where ya gonna go? Any of you seen counseling offices in your neighborhood or local hospital?
