Former deputy secretary-general of Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) Prayad Puangchampa was sentenced today (Thursday) to four months in jail, suspended for 12 months, and fined 10,000 baht after being found guilty of making a false declaration of his assets and liabilities.

The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders also banned him from holding office as a state official for five years.

Prayad was dismissed from his post last August. According to the NACC investigation, he was foundto have amassed 658 million baht in wealth, of which 227 million baht was held in his wife’s name, which he did not declare.

Wow that 10,000 Baht fine will really hurt then!

So, probably stole hundreds of millions of Baht and will get 4 months in jail? pretty sweet deal if you ask me.

Pah..... many will be more severely punished for speeding. A joke sentence.

Yet, isn't this how it always works.

This circle really aren't punished.

Universal practice worldwide.

Maybe he'll shuffle off to AMLO for a new position?

Maybe they should just rename the NACC as the National Corruption Commission?

How was this fortune amassed?  Surely not out of his salary.  Now he's laughing all the way to the bank after paying the 10K 'fine'!  Thailand deserves all it gets if they don't confiscate this fortune.

Top 3 Excuses...

he married well

family land sold off

if you ask again I'll file a Defamation charge

so now there needs to be a Committee to investigate the Committee that investigates corruption. makes sense in Thailand

They should've followed the Paper/money trail then he would've got Life without parole.

But than, he  only didn't disclose  some funds  so he's ok.

You missed the fact that the sentence was suspended, so he got away with it effectively.

Amazing how many super rich officials there are in Thailand. I wonder why they work as civil servants at all, given the low official salary. Apparently many civil servants have much more lucrative sources of income than their official salary. It's a pity that there is no institution in Thailand that checks this properly.
