webfact
Image: 77kaoded By Online Reporter Bang Saphan, located little over two hours from Hua Hin, is one of the few places in Thailand where you can still pan for gold. The gold panning takes place in the river that runs through the Ron Thong Subdistrict, and according to locals, the gold found in the area is of the best quality in the country. Gold panning in Bang Saphan is a popular activity among locals, who see it as a way to supplement their income but it is becoming increasingly popular with tourists and those seeking to try new experiences. The process of gold panning involves sifting through the river sediment with a pan, looking for small particles of gold. It is a labor-intensive process that requires patience and skill, as the gold particles are often very small and can be difficult to spot. My hair is grey, PhD degree won't get me a bowl of soup, but I must have helped over 10,000 single moms in Pattaya!!!! Please take down this article, this will cost me my livelihood!!!! don't come, I haven't found all the gold yet. But I can rent you some shovels..........................hey, that's a thought!!!! 1

So not much gold as the locals need to supplement their income from tourist chancing their luck with gold fever?

bangon04
Can you imagine the press story if a Farang (without a work permit of course) actually found a gold nugget weighing over 1 Oz ??
dingdongrb
I used to pan for gold occasionally around the Cripple Creek area but was just doing so to have a nice afternoon in the sun breathing in fresh clean air. We would occasionally find an itty bitty nugget but wasn't out to make any real money. However back in the mid 80s when gold was over $300 USD an ounce a friend and I set up a small dredge on the Arkansas River. We only worked it on the weekends after our real jobs. On a good weekend we would get a baby food jar or two full of nice shinny gold flakes (with a few nuggets). All in all that would equate to an ounce or two.
