Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport is urging passengers to allow extra time as the airport upgrades security screening at the departure terminal. According to a report from the National News Bureau of Thailand, some checkpoints are partially closed as a result of the renovation.

Passengers heading back to other ports from the Phuket Airport today are also being warned about additional traffic and possible delays following the 3 day long weekend.

BKK airport is currently installing an automated tray return system at the checkpoints where departing passengers need to have their carry-on baggage screened for prohibited items. Travellers are being advised to arrive extra early to allow for potential delays.

It’s understood the automated tray return system will double capacity at checkpoints from 3,300 passengers an hour to 6,650. Once operational, the screening process is expected to be faster, leading to less congestion in the terminal.

Additional staff members and immigration officers are being deployed to help passengers at security screening stations and passport control. However, the advice remains to leave plenty of time, at least 3 hours before departure, to avoid any delay.
