A sedan ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle, causing it to ram into a sign pole. The driver was unharmed and claimed that she had mistaken a green light for a red light.

Sawang Boriboon rescue responders rushed to a traffic accident site at the intersection in Central Pattaya around 3 AM this morning, March 10th. They found two sedans, white and bronze Honda Civics, a fallen motorcycle, and car parts scattered on the road.

The white car had large damage on the right side. It had also crashed and toppled a sign pole on the side of the road. The rescuers told The Pattaya News that three people had been injured by the accident, including a white sedan driver and a motorcycle rider.

Quite often the red/green light for turning right is directly above the left hand lanes, so it is possible to make that mistake.

Please read my post again and then decide whether I said red was like green.

It is the positioning of the red/green lights I was posting about.

Yes. There is a turn on highway 340 Sri Racha.

It is a blind turn.

And then there a set of confusing traffic lights.

Always check rear view mirror.????????

OK, but red is still not green, a driver should be aware of traffic signal layout...........????

another " confused " driver between the hours of Midnight and 6 am.

Ok, accepted. And because of this the driving license should be revoked and a lifetime ban of getting a new license. It would be a public risk to let such a person ever drive again.

And yet they are still driving. God help us all!

I think we need a picture as an example????

Correction: she mistook the red light for a green light, not the other way round.

Of note: there are numerous intersections where lights are stacked one above, or adjacent to, each other. The ahead light goes green, but the right turn light stays red, and vice versa. I was involved in a head on collision with a driver who made the same mistake, on Chelsea embankment of all places. Made an oncoming right, right in front of me. Kapow! At combined speeds of 40mph. Yes, it can and does happen. Our brains swap things around. Red and green are complementary colours.

I don't think she actually confused the two colours. I'm colour blind but can still differentiate between green and red.

Really slow news day.  We've gone from:

... RTA with multiple deaths

... with foreigner deaths

... with deaths & injuries

... with injuries

... to any oops, no injuries

Wife advised me to be very careful around the house, as she doesn't want a news crew out front of the house if I stump my toe.

Should this not be the other way round ie she mistook a RED light for a GREEN.

Whatever, get her off the road asap.

One time I was renewing my driver's license , and there was this very old Thai guy ,

they were testing him for the light colours , and he said he could not see them , so

they took him away to another office (maybe to make a deal ) ,seen him later on

getting his photo for new license , !!!!!! , out back on the roads .there must be many

more like him on the roads.

Red light ,green light driving through the pouring rain I gotta see Jane .   Comes to mind.

Will this be a recognized excuse like passenger scream, microsleep, brake failure, etc...?

Eh!

Doesn't make sense, if she had mistaken a green light for red she should have stopped, and it wouldn't of mattered if she ran the light it would have been green anyway.

So you run a red light even when it's green.

The driver was obviously scrambling for an excuse under extreme stress.  Personally, I would have gone with the "confused the brake pedal with the gas pedal" option.   Marginally more plausible.
