Police surrounded a house in Phetchaburi and evacuated some 30 children after a gunman opened fire killing three people and wounded two others.


The man held up at his house and fired sporadic shots as some 100 police arrived and surrounded the property, the 29 year old gunman was known to police and was believed to have been stressed at having to appear in court on drugs charges.

 

20 members of a phone scam network have been arrested. The 15 Thai and 5 Indian nationals are alleged to have swindled millions of baht  out of mainly American retirees.


The arrests came during 4 raids in Chonburi,  Roi Et, Rayong and Surat Thani.


Officers seized 162 bank books, 61 mobile phones, two cars, a pistol, and land title deeds.  U.S officers had sought help from Thailand to crack the network which had also operated Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, Peru and Poland. 


The minister for agriculture yesterday re assured the public that food products from Prachinburi are safe, following the loss of a radioactive cylinder. 


Several customers had cancelled orders for fresh food from the area despite announcements from authorities to say there was no risk of contamination.

Amnesty International together with other activists, Thailand presented a petition containing more than 8,500 signatures to Prime Minister Prayut, urging the police to drop charges against all political activists. The organizations called on Thailand to uphold its obligations to global human rights norms, such as the right to bail, freedom of expression, and peaceful assembly.

Vietnam: Four Vietnam Airlines flight attendants that were detained last week on suspicion of trafficking 11kg of drugs have been released on bail pending further investigation, Airport's customs scanned the attendants' bags and found 157 tubes of toothpaste that contained  ketamine. All four told police they were not aware they were carrying narcotics.
