A Thai man suffered a severe injury after he bravely protected his girlfriend from an acid attack carried out by her ex-boyfriend.

The incident happened at the victim’s house in the Si Maha Pho district in the central province of Prachin Buri at midnight, on April 17. The female victim, Roongrat Towong, recounted that she heard a knock on her door at midnight. She and her boyfriend, Saengpetch, answered the door to find her ex-boyfriend, Thongkham Klomthong.

Roongrat inquired why Thongkham had come to her house in the middle of the night, but he remained silent. Suddenly, he took out a cup of acid, opened the lid, and threw it at her.

Saengpetch, who was standing beside her, immediately jumped in front of her to shield her from the acid, resulting in severe injuries all over his body, particularly his eyes. Roongrat was also injured as the acid hit her face and other body parts.

Thongkham fled from the scene after the attack. Roongrat was unable to see how her ex escaped since she rushed to the toilet to wash off the acid while her boyfriend ran out to ask for help from the neighbours.

How dreadful. He faces a life of disfigurement and possibly blindness, all because of a bout of jealousy. I can't even comprehend what would make one human being do that to another.

You cannot comprehend because you were not born into any of the "cultures" wherein such behaviours have been common for generations.

But......"that's what they're like".

For your interest, check out the huge increase in "honour killings", of Iraqui Kurdish women, that took place after Saddams restraining hand was removed.

They were, and are, enabled by the re-written laws..........It's a "culture" thing.

I'm well aware of that, Enoon but that doesn't make it any easier to comprehend how people can be so vicious, whatever the culture. Oil of Vitriol was commonly used as a weapon of attack in Victorian London as you will know from your Sherlock Holmes.

Absolutely horrific. Thongkham Klomthong is a tiny man, lacking any sort of self worth, or self esteem. His parents failed miserably. A real man just walks away from a relationship that is not working, or from a woman who does not want to be with him. He wishes her well. A half man, a pathetic waste of a human being ends up inflicting pain on someone they desperately wanted to stay with.

May he be inflicted with the worst pox imaginable and rot in prison.

An example of two extremes of behaviour.  Self-sacrifice to save someone you care about and wanting to destroy someone's life simply because of rejection.

His eyes don't appear to be bandaged, so hopefully that's a good sign.  I hope he fully recovers and the perpetrator spends a lot of time in prison.

Has he been to India? There it happens way more, woman's face is given "a special treatment", when the husband is angry. Signed for live, so they will  never have a man again.

In India , the man gets a dowry and can ask for more later in mariage. Which can lead up to treatment if woman can get anymore dowry from family.

Yeah, we humans can make up lots of cruelness to each other.

There are sites, you can see in phone movies. You will vomit and your mind cant cope.
