Hi,

I recently moved from Penang to Bangkok and got a 90 day visa. Upon arriving in Bangkok I started teaching at a school. They then transferred my 90 day visa to a Non-B (at my expense). I asked if this was tied to the school and was told no. I only stayed there one month

I have now been told they are going to cancel my Non-B visa. This means I have lost my Penang 90 day visa and the 2,000 baht I spent on the Non-B.

I knew that work permits are tied to the school, but not Non-B's, or so I was told.

My question is, can the school cancel this?

I am English if it makes any difference!

Many thanks for any help.

1. You seem to have had a tourist visa from Penang which allows only a 60 day stay - to obtain 90 days would have required extension at a cost of 1,900 baht.

2. It appears that the school managed to change your visa to a non immigrant B at the Immigration cost of 2,000 baht. This change required employment proof.

3. If you lose employment your work permit must be returned and if you do not have a valid visa entry (on an extension of stay) you must leave the country within seven days/.

4. You seem to fall in an area we have no reporting on. If your visa was issued overseas and you entered using it then the loss of work permit would not require you to leave in seven days. But in your case you changed your visa entry type at Immigration. I would contact them for a definitive answer. You can call 1111 and ask for immigration.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. To clarify:

1. Yes, I had a Penang tourist visa which required an extension.

2. Yes, someone from the school came with me to immigration and changed my visa to a Non-B

3. They have not cancelled it yet (I left one week ago) and have told me they wish to do this at a convenient time for me, but it must be soon. Thanks for telling me about the seven days, I never knew that.

4. Yes, I enetered thailand on the tourist visa.

I just called Immigration and they just confirmed much of what you said. However, I don't think the lady understood that I wanted to change back to my Tourist Visa. All she said was that I have seven days after cancellation and that I can leave the country to get another visa. She implied that it was down to me to go to immigration to do this! I'm hardly going to rush down there myself now am I! Anyway, the school will be chasing me on this.

When I go to immigration to cancel this, I'll confirm there if I can revert to my tourist visa and let you you know what the outcome is.

Thanks for your help.
