suffered from epilepsy

In a lot of countries anyone suffering from epilepsy are automatically disqualified from getting a drivers license.

So, either it is made-up by the family to make the son worse of in the head then he is, or it was a known affliction and the son obtained a license with the knowledge that he wasn't authorised too.

Or doesn't Thailand have this rule?

drivers in thailand makes me "throw a fit" sometimes :o

Sometimes?

Never takes me more than 5 minutes after turning on the ignition, every time, never fails.

I don't know that epilepsy disqualifies you from having a driver's license. Having seizures will, however. In most countries there is a period of time (I think in the US it's 1 year) without a seizure and being on medication and you are eligible for a license. This, by the way, has to be certified by a doctor. Other countries would probably have similar provisions. Some epileptics have pre-symptoms before the onset of a seizure and might know it is coming on.

A second point, most people with epilepsy don't need to be treated at a "mental" hospital. It's a physical condition and is treated most often by neurologists and other specialists. Some people do have psychiatric symptoms, including behavioral problems, related to the epilepsy, but if the seizures are controlled these usually go away.

Finally, it would seem that if this guy was having a seizure, he would have completely freaked everyone out. A full-blown, grand-mal seizure is not a particularly pretty site and bystanders probably would have reported that they thought he was dying. Were there any reports like this?

Its just so sad to think that this aspect of Thai society will never willingly change.

They talk about their national pride but they do nothing to help the man on the street. They refuse to pay full taxes, effectively eliminating all chances for the provision of some form of welfare state for the disadvantaged.

How on earth are these poor victims ever going to go after true justice? They will probably get fobbed off with a trivial amount of cash (by the driver's standards) on the condition that all legal challenges will be dropped and that will be it, because the victims are hardly likely to be in a position to refuse for them would be a large sum.

I remember the taxi driver who got killed during the BTS construction when a section crushed him at Sukhumvit 24. I think his family received 50,000 Baht in compensation.

It would be nice if the police pushed the criminal charges - you'd think that twenty witnesses would be enough. But, Thonglor police station has a reputation for being one of the most corrupt stations in Bangkok.

- though they usually stick to kidnap, murder and extortion (alledgedly...) I'm sure that a bit of corruption isn't beyond them.

I've just chatted to the missus about it, and she says that that family are quite a hated Thai hiso family - she knew the surname very well.

She reckoned that they are above the law (not a new thought to most on this thread) and nothing will happen to them. It's old news as far as she's concerned...

Very sad. :o

Thailand has a way of making these high profile cases go away. First, make sure there is a high level of appeasement--we saw that with offers of money (but not too much), then with family members attending the funeral. This gives everyone the sense of compliance.

Secondly, make sure the "perpetrator" either goes to the hospital or into the monkhood.

Thirdly, make sure that the police take their sweet old time (as they collect money and gifts from the family) to decide what to do....or not to do.

Finally, and most importantly, make SURE the media lose interest and quit covering it. This is the one I don't understand here. In the US and Europe, some of these high profile people get hounded half to death for years. The press follows their every move. The court systems are almost always slow, but the media needs to be there keeping an eye on things.

Any idea here as to how they keep them from printing or reporting on this kid, his family, the victims or the case?

Meanwhile, you can start bumping it up about every 6 months to a year!

The press "back off' here after the requisite amount of time. The Dad of Nong Psycho probably plays golf or has business with some press bigwig / editor amongst other contacts. He may also have family / kin amongst the press here, too.

I still say the family won't get away with it and those responsible for the investigation will somehow pay dearly for trying to cover it up. Give it a bit more time.

I'd like you to be corect TC.

I tend to agree with Scott's post though, mainly becasuse of the over-riding factor of apathy that's the norm here.

What happened to the Saraburi girl who had her arm hacked off by a policeman.... poor kid.

It seems to me that the public and the media lost interest in this case. Another case which involved a Thai actor running into a garbage collector also has been forgotten.

I'd hazzard a guess that Moo Ham is probably out and about wandering or cruising the streets of Bangkok, and that he has now been cured of his alleged mental illness :o

Mr. Toad--that's exactly what would be nice to know. Where is he? Is out cruising around in a new Mercedes (or did they repair the old one)? Back in school? Did they change his medication?

All bus passengers want to know!

They need a few Thai Papparazzi to follow this guy around and report on his movements.

didn't he have his own fan website , that would probably tell you

I unndersatnd that his website was closed down pretty quickly, after the family realsied that it was going to bring unwanted and unhelpful publicity to them.

No agreement reached on road rage

Negotiations between the Pachimsawas family and victims of the road rage incident in early July involving their son Kanpitak who drove into a crowded bus stop failed to reach a conclusion Monday, as two victims initially demanded Bt13 million.

The case officer, LtColonel Yannawut Liamkaew, said the negotiations had "nothing to do" with the criminal charges of murder, attempted murder and assault against Kanpitak, which the police investigator will conclude for the Criminal Court within a week.

It will be interesting to what charges if any are filed.

Someone please bring Charles Bronson back from wherever he is now, and let him take care of that piece of Hi-So shit .

I'm sure that Charles would happily share his pineapples with him. :o

I'm very curious to know what's going to happen to this piece of dogshit, but i suspect that he is going to take full adavantage of his so called position in society. IMO his and his families actions are totally indefensible, but sadly it look's like he is going to use some dubious defense to get away with it. Mentally Ill, I very much doubt. Spoilt little shit much more likely.

ok, back to reality.... lots of monetary haggling...

No deal on payment in bus stop case

The family of Kanpithak Patchimsawat, who rammed his car into a crowd at a bus stop on July 4, has yet to settle compensation deals with the damaged parties, which are deemed too high. Kanpithak's mother, Sawinee Pakaranang, said she was negotiating for a reduction in compensation asked for by the injured parties. She asked them to produce documents showing how much they had spent on treating their injuries. Sangwarn Seehawong, a woman injured in the incident, has demanded six million baht in damages. ''I have negotiated for half the amount, three million baht, and will meet Ms Sangwarn on Sept 14 to settle the deal,'' Mrs Sawinee said. She added that she had paid the medical bills and compensation for nine of the 12 damaged parties. Suchira Insuwan, daughter of the dead victim Saichon Luangsaeng, said she asked for seven million baht in compensation. ''No matter how much the money, it cannot make up for the loss of my mother,'' Ms Suchira said, adding that the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority has helped her by employing her as a staff member. Mr Kanpithak, 20, has been charged with premeditated murder, attempted murder and physical assault after he rammed his car into bus passengers waiting at a bus stop, killing one woman and injuring others, following a

From the Nation article:

"However, Savinee later told reporters the two hour talks did not reach any conclusion and her side wanted each victim to submit details of the damages claim to help her understand why they wanted such a large amount of money."

Perhaps the victims' lawyers should ask her if their client had killed her mother would she accept a pittance as compensation. I suspect the answer is no. I hope their little spoiled brat gets years in prison for what he did living in a cramped cell among people his family so despises. Will it happen? Doubtful. He probably won't get even a day.
