I would also like to know who does the best (not the cheapest) Sunday Roast, and where can I buy Tetleys T Bags or PG Tips?

Anybody know? I'm in BKK by the way.

I know about Big Joes on Samui but it's not practical.

Cheers

The tea bags I think you'll source at Villa Mart on Sukhumvit Road, just off Soi 33 across the road from the Queen's Park and The Emporium. Alternatively The Emporium gourmet food shop on the 6th floor will probably have them.

Sunday roasts, not to sure on the best these days but I know the Black Swan does a good munch and my mate's roast beef with yorkshire pud looked pretty good the other day. Said the roast spuds were right anyway and that's usually the thing they screw up on.

Black Swan is Sukhumvit Road as well, just by the Asoke BTS station. Another alternative I'd be willing to bet does a good one, is the Dubliner, just across the road and down a bit (off Suk 22) from the Villa Mart. Everything else they do there is good.

Hold on, title says breakfast, post says sunday roast, what you looking for man? Ok, been hearing that Oh My Cod does a cracking English brekkie, cheap too. Haven't checked it yet but my sources are pretty reliable.

Hands down best for both breakfast and sunday roast is the Irish Pub on Suk in Bkk. It is called the Dubliners. Do a search on this forum and you will get lots of info, including the location. The orange juice is freshly squeezed too, you get a free small glass if you are having breakfast before noon, and a pint glass full for about 140 bt. Not cheap but fabulous.

oooh, my husband just had a full Irish breakfast at the Dubliner and wasn't impressed: the beans were mushy from being overcooked, and the fried eggs had solid yolks, like they'd been out too long. The mushrooms were nice.

On the other hand, I had fish and chips there and that was very good.

Massive portions!

Must have been a off day. Normally the dubliner is rated as the best in BKK for brekkie.

Regarding OP......

Order Mini Fry from the dubliner and PG Tips tea bags from www.foodbyphonebkk.com delivered within the hour....no need to leave home - perfect for the Sunday morning hangover.

Jools Bar, Suk 4. They do a good full English and it's well cooked + as much tea and coffee as you want 265 baht, Buuurrrrrp

Many expats (myself included) won't use the Dubliner or Irish X-Change because of their well known connections to organised crime.

Sometimes I use Cafe 22 right down Sukumvit Soi 22 on the right. Full English is 120THB with mug of hot tea.

Tud, is there parking there?

Breakfast at the Irish Exchange soi convent then on the Skytrain to Siam and central world where you'll find your teabag needs met. :o

My favourite breakfast used to be Jools but I have'nt been there for years.

On the other hand you can definitely catch "Delhi Belly" in Delhi..

what time does jools open of a morning as i am an early starter and like brekkie around 9-00am.didn't think it opened until about 11-00am.

Sorry, i don't know what time they open. i've only ever got there around 12.30pm.

Btw don't be tempted to try the Irish bar opposite, slow service, and not as good.

the Winking Frog opens at 9am and does a small, medium or large full English breakfast starting at 170 baht, depending on your hangover needs and capacity. I have only managed the medium size and was very happy with that. You can get English tea (Tetleys) there as well.

Cant beat the WF breakfast. Or the pies. My local when i lived there. Though i also played football for them.

I always found the Winking Frog to be a dreary place usually populated by uncouth tattooed blue collar types from less fashionable parts of Northern England and as a consequence I eschewed the cuisine on the basis that the clientele were hardly likely to raise the bar in culinary excellence.

The Dubliner is by far the best venue for breakfast but one should construct one's own from their a la carte petit dejeuner menu which works out at remarkably good value. The trick is to ensure the waitress fully understands your needs and to emphasise just how the eggs should be prepared. Beware, if you order an omelette they will fling chives into the mix with no regard to the stricture that neither onion nor garlic should be seen on the table before midday. I once had the unhappy experience of being presented with the full ' monty ' at the Bull's Head only to discover raw garlic had been grated upon the grilled tomatoes!

As a reliable alternative but not perhaps so convenient is to purchase the bits and bobs from the various Emporium outlets and prepare yourself......

The Black Swan uses excellent produce but their economics can be challenging and their venue lacks the early ambience of the Dubliner which can also be relied upon to offer suitable reading material.

The Robin Hood is also a reasonable venue but indifferent staffing levels in the morning seem to bear haphazardly upon quality which varies to such an extent that one shirks from a recommendation.

Most expats that go there are idiots anyway. In my humble opinion of course.

Faux-Irish bars worldwide are frequented by corporate nobodies and unadventurous newbies. Bland and unappealing as far as I'm concerned.

I've had the breakfast a couple of times and it hasn't been up to much, the same can be said for the rest of the menu.

:o

I never been called an idiot, corporate nobody and unadventurous newbie before - Refreshing change.

Maybe the guy is trying to go straight and just run a restaurant, but the people who hold his past against him and boycott his business make it impossible. :o

I thought that the Dubliner had a very good breakfast, although I've never liked the place ,and avoid going there.

If I was desperate for a really good breakfast it'd be there or, if I had just been paid, the Black Swan. The Black Swan seems to have nicer customers than the other similar pubs on Suk. The owners a good chap too.

Only my opinion.

BANGKOK: -- Bosses of the Brinton Group and other controversial securities trading firms were convicted yesterday in the Bangkok South Criminal Court of operating illegal "boiler rooms" in Thailand.

Seven foreigners, including Irishman John Martin Kealy, were found guilty of running "unlicensed securities businesses [boiler rooms]" - huge investment scams conducted from call centres in Bangkok on people in Australia and other countries across Asia and the Pacific.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed a criminal complaint against seven defendants on July 26, 2001.

They were John Kealy, Scott Campbell Fisher, Paul Mary Hickey, Ronan Joseph Murray, Steven Hooper, Jason Garrick Rich and Adrian Robert Wallis.

An SEC statement yesterday said: "The Bangkok South Criminal Court convicted all seven defendants and sentenced each of them to two years jail and a fine of Bt200,000, but the jail term has been suspended."

Kealy and his colleagues were charged with "conducting unlicensed securities businesses (boiler rooms) in Thailand, which is a contravention of Section 90 of the Securities and Exchange Act BE 2535".

"These defendants, claiming that their offices were located in Thailand as well as in many countries, had induced overseas investors, mostly Australians, into making investments in securities of companies in USA and Canada.

"Different names of the Brinton Group, Sigama Capital Management, Lincoln Financial, and e.go trade incorporated, were used."This had not only caused damages to investors but also to the reputation and image of Thailand."

The commission said yesterday's conviction "reflects efficiency of Thailand's criminal justice administration in bringing wrongdoers into justice. Australian authorities have said thousands of investors were conned into sending their savings abroad, mainly to bank accounts in Hong Kong.

Angry investors in the Brinton Group banded together to form an association, which attempted to assist police in Thailand to recover an estimated 300 million Australian dollars (Bt8.4 billion) which people said they had lost.

Kealy - who runs the Dubliner and Irish Exchange pubs in central Bangkok - and his colleagues claimed the Brinton Group lost most of the money in the US stock slump.

A previous attempt to prosecute the Brinton Group heads was dropped by prosecutors, who complained that Thai police had failed to gather sufficient evidence to convict them of "complex and sophisticated" fraud charges.
