The Thai Tourist Police arrested a woman for stealing money and assets from foreigners at Don Mueang International Airport and shopping malls in Bangkok. The officers also discovered 293 tablets of methamphetamine and 1.26 grammes of crystal meth at her accommodation.

The arrest was made after a Chinese woman reported that her designer YSL (Yves Saint Laurent) handbag worth over 100,000 baht had been stolen at the Don Mueang International Airport on Sunday, April 9. She explained that she had left the handbag and her luggage near Gate 8 while visiting a convenience store in the passenger terminal, and later discovered that the handbag was missing.

Tourist Police Bureau officers reviewed nearby CCTV footage and identified the culprit as Pornthip Khantarak, a 53 year old woman who had a history of thefts at airports and shopping malls in Bangkok. She had been released from prison just last year after being arrested several times.

Officers apprehended Pornthip at a Burger King near Siam BTS station where she had just stolen a wallet belonging to a Filipino tourist. The wallet contained 23,000 pesos (14,230 baht), and the tourist had not yet filed a complaint with the police. Officers contacted the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Bangkok to locate the victim.

Seems a longer spell in khuk is required for all the grief she has caused visitors, with no whopper with cheese and bacon, just fish heads and rice..............

Better chop her hands off........

She needs a few of those light fingers chopped off ????

Exactly.

If I was walking around with an item worth over 100,000 Baht, it would be chained and padlocked to my body.

I definitely would not just put it down in a busy public area and then just walk away from it.

Some people are just belonging in prison for the rest of their life as they are threat to society and others and the chance for them for Rehabilition and part of the overall community in slim to none.

Is Gate 8 beyond Security and Passport control ?

How did she get in there ?

In Thailand everyone would assume it's a fake. Surprised the woman stole it.

Steady on mate, the Chinese lady doesn't deserve that kind of punishment for being silly enough to spend a hundred k baht on a handbag.

Donation to a charity and some community service at the orphanage should suffice.

A very good question... Gate 8 would mean it was airside?

"she had left the handbag and her luggage near Gate 8 while visiting a convenience store".

Bright. What could possibly go wrong?

I would guess they mean Door 8.

Yes, doesn’t really make sense. So, she either must have been a passenger, or working at the airport.

If she only steal from tourists and not Thais then this is a great quality and approved by courts. This makes her an ideal candidate for TAT or Hospitals or thousands of those dilapidated forests which Thais call national park as zeal to fleece a tourist is a competency they seek for.

Access to your aircraft from departure lounge are always called Gates., so it does make it a little confusing.

However it does state "passenger terminal" so maybe they meant to indicate Isle or check-in gate 8?

Seems she cannot decide between being a drug dealer or a thief.

Maybe she intentionally gets caught so she can detox in prison, then get out, rinse, repeat.
