What cable for this port?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I found my old Acer external hard drive (2010?) while sorting through boxes, but the cables seem to have disappeared.

The power adapter should be easy enough to source, but I'm not familiar with the USB adapter.  It looks like something you would see on a printer.

It would be really helpful to know what this type of port is called so that I can search for a cable.

Thanks very much. ????

A power supply for such an old drive could be more difficult than the standard USB input, or is it output.

What voltage, + or - centre, actual size of plug.

Why bother with such a dinosaur?  555

The OP seems to think he'll be able to find his existing power supply.

As for why bother, perhaps the OP has something on there he'd like to retrieve? Or maybe he doesn't remember what's on there and is curious??

Because it's a one terabyte drive, and I'd like to see what's on it.

No luck in that regard.  Do you think it will be challenging to find one?

If you know the voltage it requires and the size of the barrel jack you can probably find a usb-c adapter that will work with any* modern usb charger that supports the Power Delivery (PD) protocol.

Is there any marking on the drive case indicating what the PSU requirements are?

It's likely 12V @ 2A which would be a readily available wall-wart supply (Lazada), but do check what the drive says.

Your comment is needless and unnecessary.

Power supplies are easily sourced on lazada and the OP has said it won't be a bother.

Your 'dinosaur' reference is antagonizing.

I reckon you should not make any more hostile comments, also come back to the forum when you are feeling better.

Power supplies of varying quality, and hence safety, are available on Lazada and many other places. All he needs to know is the voltage, current drawn by the drive, the physical size of both the external and internal elements and the polarity. I was merely trying to help. Some repliers seem to interpret the OP's post as that he can find the original power supply. I did not, and he actualyl admits it in a later post.

If you find my calling a 13 year old HDD a dinosaur disturbing, then YOU come back to the forum when you are feeling less antagonized
