Ecc - English Course For Thai People

Featured Replies

I am looking at some courses to teach a thai person english. One of the schools i did find was ECC.

They offer a few courses i would like to have some comments on. Especially the courses english basic, pre-elementary and elementary. What is the expected level of education after someone finishes one of them (starting at the basic level) or all? Have experiences with this school been satisfying or does that differ between individual schools of the branch?

Any other relevant information is welcome too as is relevant information about other schools. I am looking for a school in Khon kaen (the city itself).

/edit if i put this thread in the wrong section, please correct me.

it all depends and varies, u could be speaking to a 5 year old that just knows the ABC's to an adult with a basic conversation, why would you want to work for such a company? i heard alot of bad things about them from other teachers on this forum, id stay away If i were you, unless you like the low pay.

Uhhh. I think he is looking for a recommendation for a language school for a Thai friend to learn English, not to find a job? Yes/No? If this is the case, then it is hard to not recommend ECC because there are so many branches with so many different teachers of varying quality. I did a CELTA course at the ECC in Siam Square and one of the teachers we observed for our course requirement was a frigging buffoon. Again, just one teacher among many in one branch. The other teacher we observed, a native French teacher teaching English, was a good teacher, and knew what he was doing.

yes, you are right. I am not looking for a job myself. But i didnt know where to place the thread and i am probably not to clear myself :o

My Thai wife did a course there. I highly recommend them. As someone said, it really depends on the teacher. I taught there when I was new to the game in 1995 and was a terrible drunken bum teacher. There were good ones. George in Siam Square, Bkk was very good.

I'd expect Khon Kaen to have not so good teachers as the pay is rubbish. AUA may be better, although the teachrs may be American. :o

I did the first ever Tesol course that ECC did. The trainer, Steve was excellent.

Indeed. American...hmm. I'm a fairly decent speller, and usually go to my classes sober. :D

Steve Lawrence? If so, yes, he was excellent. A bit ghoulish, but a great instructor.

God, do you really think I think teachers is spelled teachrs?

You probably think if you got 20/20 in a grade 4 spelling exam, you'll be a good teacher.

I was joking aout American BTW :D

I guess you didn't notice the liddle smiley face you <deleted>'n <deleted>.

Can we get back to the topic? I think we've established that the opening poster joost wants a basic course and beginner courses in Khon Kaen for a Thai friend. Chances are fair to good that their courses might be okay for the student, depending on the instructor.

That is about what i did read indeed :o. I am seeking contact at the moment with the ECC branch in Khon Kaen to get further information. I do have another question though. Does somebody know or is an (good) english teacher in Khon Kaen? I might be interested to get a private tutor if i am convinced about the quality of the lessons and of course i want to know about expenses :D.

If you dont want to answer on the forum, please contact me by private message. Thank you in advance.
