Deadly floods that have engulfed the northern Italian region of Emilia Romagna, killing at least 14 people, are another sign of the accelerating climate crisis, according to researchers.

The floods come after years of severe drought in the region, which has compacted the soil, reducing its ability to abemsorb rainfall.

“Rising temperatures intensify drought episodes, drying up the soil and changing its permeability in different ways,” Mauro Rossi, a researcher at the Research Institute for Geo-Hydrological Protection, part of the Italian National Research Council, said on Wednesday n a press release.

Was the last "once in a century" flooding, maybe a century ago, also linked so the so-called climate crisis?

Or was it just a once in a century flooding at that time?

The big difference with floodings and other weather-related catastrophes these days is that there are far fewer victims then decades and centuries ago.

"Once in a century" in this context means that based on past experience, one can expect, on average, this kind of flooding once in a century. Of course, if past experience is no longer consistent with current circumstances, then, in the case of human caused climate change, one can expect sharp alterations in frequency of certain weather events.

As far as there being fewer victims, given that weather forecasting has greatly improved over the last hundred years, it is to be expected that a higher percentage of people will be able to get out of harm's way before disaster strikes. And that governments will be able to takes steps to accommodate them in the face of an oncoming event.

Planet caused, climate warming, does not make any one rich, that is why we are

getting the blame for climate change. It is not that anyone cannot see the change in the weather patterns

like El Nino and La Nina, etc.  as well.  No Us humans have  to pay lots of money because if the

Earth heating itself up with Volcanoes and maybe the interior is also getting hotter again, it would

not make any one richer. Just my opinion.

The thing is, your opinion does not account for the fact that the upper layers of the atmosphere are getting cooler while the lowest layer is getting warmer.

If you had a scintilla of credibility or intention to do anything other then troll you'd explain how the governments are controlling our lives.

Does the government not control where you can go and for how long?

Governments (good or bad) control most everything we do.

Well, if you're in America you may not be allowed to go to certain military testing areas. You probably won't be allowed to stroll at will the halls of the Pentagon, or the CIA, or the NSA, and similar agencies, or pop in to nuclear power plants, but apart from that, what kind of restrictions are you referring to? Seems like nonsense to me.

So no specific connection to a control mechanism of any kind related to the climate change?

Well, they control the kind of car we can buy, and the kind of home we can build, yes?

First off, you wrote this:

"Does the government not control where you can go and for how long?"

And of course it's been the case for a long long time that localities can exercise zoning laws. And who would doubt that governments have an obligation to protect public health from pollution? What has this got to do with deadly floods linked to climate crisis?

Do you think that is why the ice age and the glaciers in the North American continent disappeared?

They control how much money you pay in taxes, how fast you drive on the road, at what age you can drink, what age you have sex, how you treat your kids, when to send you to war, etc, etc. It's a long list.

What is it about human-caused climate change denialists that apparently makes them incapable of understand the concept of rates. If you were offered 2 equally safe savings accounts, one that offerd 1% interest and another that offered 10% interest, I guess it would be a matter of indifference to you which account you would chose. After all, both are increasing, so rates are irrelevant. John Paulos, a mathematician, coined the word "innumeracy". Basically it's the equivalent of illiteracy but applied to math. The rates at which glaciers are melting and global average temperature is rising are unprecedented for hundreds of thousand of years. What is so difficult to understand about this?

And when/where we can travel and if we have to wear masks ..........

And compulsory injections of god knows what.

That's just in the last 3 years.

What does any of that have to do with climate change. The question I asked was how do governments exert control through climate change? All I see is a bunch of paffle about big brother conspiracy theories.

Solar mandates

EV mandates

Higher gas prices

Higher taxes

Higher electric rates

Higher food prices

Higher hotel rate

Higher airfares

Electric stove mandates

Extremely higher housing costs

A generation of terrifies children

The list goes on ad nauseum.

They now start telling us that we should stop eating meat, because it affects climate change.

Do I win a prize?

You can still have bug meat...

Not to worry, the rich will still eat as they like.

This is BS on steroids:

Solar mandates:  Please tell me where solar energy is mandated.  There maybe targets for green energy, but that is not a mandate.

EV mandates:  Again, no mandates in place.  And before you bring up California's proposal, it doesn't mandate anything.

Higher gas prices:  Nothing to do with anything other than supply/demand ..... and geopolitical conflicts.

Higher food prices:  directly caused by Climate Change causing droughts and floods.

Higher taxes:  zero evidence to support this claim.

Higher electric prices:  Due to climate change -- water shortages and less hydroelectric power, for starters.

Electric Stove mandate:  Again, no mandate, just a hysterical reaction from the right.

Everything else mentioned is merely a hysterical reaction to a real situation that is affecting us now and will continue to affect us for the long term.

Yeah because they closed the nuclear reactors and the coal fired plants, leaving hydroelectric as only option.

Even windmills the greenies protest against
