Fewer people are out of work in Thailand, with the jobless rate reaching a 3-year low during the first quarter of 2023, according to a Reuters report.

It’s thanks, in no small part, to the rebound in international tourism, with unemployment going from 1.15% during the last 3 months of 2022 to 1.05% in the first three months of this year, according to officials.

There was faster than expected economic growth during the first quarter of this year, thanks to the jump in tourism, which has created more jobs in a sector that was decimated during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gotcha... Didn't we read only a few weeks ago that 'unemployment is below 1 percent'? Now it's suddenly at 1.05% again?? Proof of how fake those numbers are...

Gf's sister, an extremely lazy, obese yaba taking 40 year old. Always quitting jobs and spending the entire day scrolling.

But amazes me how she can always go out and get a new one within 2 days of looking.

Sounds like full employment to me!

Where do unemployed Thai people sign on to register themselves as unemployed?

I've had many places pointed out to me over the years, but I don't recall anyone ever pointing out the dole office.

without a social security system to support the unemployed how do they calculate the number of unemployed?

Maybe they count the employed ones, and deduct that number from the working age population?

We tried to find a cleaning woman....no way to find someone who really works (and not only talks with other staff). Ended up with telling the normal staff to clean office once a week in exchange for a 500 Baht salary rise....

Yes, sounds like perfect material for a supermarket aisle or bar-lined street!

But how many of them work?  They wouldn't last a week in the West.
