Inappropriate performance at renowned Thai temple event sparks criticism

An inappropriate performance sparked criticism during a temple event in Thailand‘s northern Phayao province, resulting in public criticism and an impact on the temple’s reputation. The show, featuring the Likay troupe, displayed some explicit adult scenes not suitable for a family audience.

The performance was held during an annual event held between May 25 and June 3. Viewers were shocked to see explicit scenes involving a male and female character in the show, which was deemed inappropriate for the mix of adults and children in the audience.

The Likay troupe was hired by the event organisers and their stage was set up on the temple’s front lawn. Upon finding out about the controversial performance, residents expressed their concern regarding the negative impact on the well-known temple and the unsuitable content of the show.

Speaking to Thai media, the temple’s Waiyawatcharee declined to provide an interview but shared that the inappropriate scenes had originated from the hired Likay group, emphasising that the temple committee hadn’t organised the performance. The committee had already discussed the matter with the troupe, warning them about the inappropriateness of the scenes and urging them to be more mindful in the future.

I see a lot of coyote dancing too in temples and that is not appropriate too in my opinion, but nobody cares about the copulating movement the girls make, so why is this suddenly a problem??? It goes just a bit further

At our Temple they had a show at night with (young like 9-10 yr old) school girls singing and dancing all with costume and make-up. One did a solo dance and song complete with a twerking routine. When it comes to kids, guess I'm a prude.

I hope this does'nt effect the pristine image Thailand is so sensitive about? :jap:

from the photo, it appears only to be a "leg-over"!!

Therein lays the problem

Cayote girls with thrusting pelvics, skimpy clothes and taking tips in their bras, are still ok then I’m guessing:)

I've never understood why a natural act that everyone does during their life (and hopefully hundreds of times) is considered 'shocking'. And, while on the subject, we always say 'slept with' instead of had sex with. We're a strange race.

I suppose it's a cultural thing. We in the west see sex as sordid and not to be spoken of in polite company, a relic of the Victorian era, whereas many other nations and cultures often see sex as a normal part of life. Well, it is, isn't it.
