This region experienced its most severe heat wave on record, causing detrimental effects on the health and livelihoods of these individuals.

 

Typically, April and May are known as the hottest months in Southeast Asia, with temperatures rising before the monsoon rains provide some relief. However, this year witnessed unprecedented heat levels across the region, even in popular tourist destinations such as Thailand and Vietnam.

 

Songkran, the Thai New Year, on April 13, is the annual bridge between the ‘hot season’ and the start of the country’s wet season.

"Off guard"???? Is there ever someone "on guard" in the realm of science?

Off guard against the heatwave, off guard against the monsoons... is anyone ever proactive?

I remember reading articles on this very forum stating that the Thai Meterological  Department was predicting a hotter than normal hot season. It was also predicted by weather experts world-wide. How is that "caught off guard"?

"Proactive "is not in the Thai vocabulary. 

When you don't think about the future, plan for the future and take precautions based on predictions, you are "caught off guard". 

Could be that there are no trees , rice paddies , cane fields and concrete replaced nature in Thailand.

I also remember reading it wasn't a heat wave. One thing I do know it's been hot, hot and hot for a long time. Sorry add humid to that.
