Vendors along Phadung Krung Kasem Canal face eviction

Bangkok’s Pom Prap Sattru Phai district office will start evicting vendors who have been occupying public spaces along the Phadung Krung Kasem Canal in the Bobae, Mahanak and Saphan Khao areas, tentatively on July 1st, after residents voted in favour of renovating the area to turn it into a public recreational space.

 

The Public Works Department of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration recently organised an online survey to gauge the opinions of Bangkok residents about improving the landscape on both sides of the canal, which have been occupied by vendors who have illegally set up stalls on public land.

 

The land also encompasses the Bobae garment market, as well as the Mahanak and Saphan Khao markets.

Have a similar issue here, a Klong runs through the centre of town, from very early morning on both sides mounted on the pavements are hundreds of vendors selling anything from fast food, to fruits, to clothes. Usually start packing up about 3pm

If you need to walk along that area you have to walk in the gutter of the road.

This is an issue all over, these traders are earning a living to support the family, the people who purchase from them are grateful if there were no customers there would be no vendors,
