Direct flights from Hong Kong return to Koh Samui for first time in 3 years

Bangkok Airways has resumed its direct service between Hong Kong and Koh Samui, following a 3 year hiatus during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Phuket Express reports that tourism officials welcomed the return of the first direct flight after the suspension was lifted.

Officials at Thailand’s Marine Department have put forward a proposal to develop dedicated cruise ship terminals in Phuket, Pattaya and on Koh Samui. The Bangkok Post reports that the department says the terminals would enable these key destinations to tap into a fast-growing tourism market.

Pattani conflict escalates: Negotiator killed

An escalation in the conflict between armed militia and security forces in Pattani province yesterday saw two fatalities and one arrest. In a coordinated operation, government forces succeeded in fatally shooting an armed militant and detaining a woman. The unfortunate loss of a local official, who was involved in peaceful negotiations, also transpired amidst the crossfire. The incident took place in the Khok Pho district.

The Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) today revealed details of the financial standing of Move Forward Party (MFP) leader Pita Limjaroenrat. The details, intriguing as they are, highlight the scale and spread of his assets and liabilities, which total 85 million baht (US$2.4 million) and 20 million baht (US$573,000) respectively, Sanook reported.

Chon Buri police and victims seek joint probe in extortion case worth 140 million baht

Chon Buri Police and the Victims’ Crime Aid Society president, Achariya Ruangratanapong, lodged a formal complaint at the Attorney General’s Office calling for a joint investigation into a 140 million baht extortion gambling case. The plea was made today, alleging that several officers unfairly faced accusations in the scandal.
